1) Will this bring down my AMCAS GPA?
2) Do these still count towards prerequisites? (e.g., English)

1). AMCAS doesn't factor these into GPA so, probably
2). Depends on the school. Some accept all AP credits, others accept them but strongly recommend you to take higher level courses in that same subject, still others won't accept them at all.

Most of the iffy ones involve science credits (chem, bio, physics) since med schools generally don't trust the level of lab skills you obtain in a high school AP class as being adequate enough to substitute for a real college lab course. For a subject like English, I would think they'd be more lenient on.

True story. I was in a very similar situation.

All physics (lecture + lab) = AP
All chem (lecture, no lab) = AP
All math = AP (took an extra couple stats to give me some grades)

aaannndd I was a non-science major... who decided on medicine late. In other words, I applied with a ton of AP credit and a couple of upper division sciences. You never can tell at schools. For the most part, public schools are more lenient, not to say privates aren't. Also, I've noticed some are very sticky about APs (Vandy), but some say they are (UChicago), yet that's the school I've had unexpected success at.

Needless to say, just makes it more of a crapshoot, but success is DEFINITELY still possible.

AP credits won't bring down your GPA, your grades will just have a larger influence over your GPA. In other words, a "B" is going to bring down your GPA more if you have a bunch of exemptions due to AP credits (and thus haven't taken as many classes at college) than if you have a ton of grades. On the other hand, it may help you, because you don't have to worry about grades for the classes you get AP credit from at all, so if you would've gotten less than an A in those subjects, those grades now won't factor into your GPA at all.
