My college is willing to grant me AP Credit based on my AP tests from high school. So far, I can claim credit for my Government and History, which I am required to take for my degree plan. I also have credit for Biology, Chemistry, Physics (B and C) and English but I will not be claiming credit for those classes.

I'm also thinking about claiming credit for Calc I and Calc II since I took AP Calc BC, but I also intend to take Stats classes in lieu of Calculus.

Would this be advisable? I've heard that some med schools are iffy about AP credit for Calc, but would they accept AP credit for Government and History?

Thanks in advance.

Not only are med schools iffy, they're picky. I would check with individual schools. In my case, I could have gotten AP credit for Physics B/C, Calc AB/BC, and Psych..however, I was advised by my undergrad institution to drop it all b/c med schools would rather see these taken in a college setting. But, this is just me. I know it would be "easier" to do it by accepting AP credit...but I would be careful about accepting AP credit for the med school prereqs.

good luck!

If you use it to take more advanced courses (Calc III, linear algebra...), I doubt it will be a big deal. I used several advanced courses to fulfill the usual prerecs, and it didn't seem to be a big deal when I applied.

You're fine for the Government and History. The calc is a little more difficult to say, but you're probably okay if you intend to take stats, and even if some schools are picky about that, they're few and far between. Double check to see that they're not schools you dream of attending but otherwise don't worry about it.
