I took the AP Biology test in highschool and passed with a 3. University of Houston takes a 3 for credit and thats where I am doing my pre-pharmacy. The problem is that I might go to University of Texas for Pharmacy school and they only take a 5 on the test. Would it count when I aply to UT pharm school in the future? Or would I have to actually take the Biology class for UT to take it as a pre requisite? I am clueless as to how the pharmacy school grades and stuff work.

You're going to need to contact each specific school & particularly their professional/graduate programs.

In CA, AP credits are all viewed as a Pass which for graduate & professional schools (in the UC system) is a "C".

Whatever the decision is, you're stuck - you took it & now probably can't retake it for credit, so you've got to move on & do the very best you can in other classes.

ok thanks,

I'm probably just going to call UH and find out what I can. I dont know if this makes a difference but when people are getting a regular bachelors degree at UT and UH the schools don't give a grade they just give credit its also the same way when you transfer community college classes to the 4 year college.

Yep, check with your school. My pharmacy school counted the credit from the AP courses, but it didn't count ones that would be among pre-reqs, such as physics or calculus, regardless of the grade (I had 5), so I just took the next level of calculus and quantitative analysis instead of physics. My European History AP credid didn't matter since it was not a specific prereq, and I had plenty of other general ed credits earned while at school. Good luck!

And doesn't University of Houston have their own pharmacy school? I am pretty sure that girl I was on rotation with, she was from U of Houston, not U of Texas...

Yea, U of H does have a pharmacy school but I would rather go to U of Texas because it would be a more fun experiance even though a more costly one. I'm just starting college though so I may change my mind about the school or even the pharmacy career.

I go/went to UT Austin and yes they do not take a 3 for undergrad credit. They used to take 4 when I first started at UT, but I guess from what you've said they've raised it to 5.

However, I do not believe this would effect your admissions from UH to UT. If you submit your scores to UH and are granted credit for the courses, then all UT will see is your transcript from UH saying you have credit for those courses. When applying for pharmacy school, schools just look at what is on your transcript from the school you're coming from. UT, and other pharmacy schools, probably wouldn't even be able to tell what scores you got on your AP tests at all. The only kind of credit they must be reported are ones from other colleges such as if you took a course at a community college and transferred it to UH. Unfortunately no one ever told me this, so my 4 Cs at Austin Community College lowered my GPA pretty bad. lol

Thanks for your imput but I am still somewhat confused.
I am actually taking some courses at CC right now but am aware that the grades will matter so I am trying to make good grades. I remember reading somewhere at the UH site that a 3 was like a B or something of that nature. Not sure at all where I read it anymore or anything. Other people in this thread have suggested it would be a C. But What I am really concered about though is the possibility that when I am applying for Pharm school UT and some other schools might not let me apply since they don't consider a 3 on the ap test enough for credit and consider me as not having passed finished my pre requisites or something like that.

Bugieman is right. Since you're only sending your AP score to U of H, UT would have no way of knowing what your score is. They would only see the Biology credits on your transcript sent from U of H. As SDN said though, you may want to talk to an academic advisor just to make sure.

I wouldn' worry too much about it though. If you get credit from a university that accepts you for undergraduate work, it should count wherever you choose to apply.

Thanks for the input Mike and I hope you guys are right. I did call my advisor but I don't think she completely understood my question when I asked her. All she said was something along the lines of it would count as credit or something.
