  1. Dental Student
Hello,

I was accepted late in the application and I am still looking for an apartment for my first year of dental school!
Based on what I have found, apartments near the school (less than 2 miles), the price tends to be a little bit higher, but if the apartments are a little far away (5+ more miles), the price seems a lot lower.

I currently live about 6 miles away from my school and I commute by bus and bike and I don't like to go back and forth between my place and school. Sometimes, I had group meetings, so I went back and forth a couple times, but I wasn't a fan of it.

Do you think that the first year dental school will be full of group work? And do you think that it would be better to live closer to the campus? I would definitely like to be in a study group with my classmates, so I am leaning toward living closer to the campus at the moment, but what do you think?

Thank you!

If the roads are generally not very busy, five miles can be covered in ten minutes.
If there is free parking/the parking situation is very good, and you can save a lot of money, i'd personally live at the most affordable housing, spend some of the saved money to buy a car, and pocket the rest.

My campus housing is actually further away from the school than my apartment lol

I decided to pay up and live a 5-10 minute walk from the school. I'm actually across the street and have to walk through a big parking lot. Everyone says that the first two years are academic heavy, I didn't want to bother with traffic or bad weather. Wanted to have the comfort to get out of bed, get ready and just walk out with my scrubs without worrying about any of that. I can also come back during my lunch hour if I want. Driving to and from school won't tire me out this time either. Connivence is really important to me. Thats practically an extra hour/2 of causal/study time a day.

My apartment also has all utilities included except cable/internet. You also have to consider the money you will be spending on bus fare a day. Look around!

Just live close to campus. Not worth the hassle of commuting. In postbac, I was able to do 2~3 hour rountrip to school an do fine. Now, I wish I lived right across the school, so I can go home right after each lecture and take mini naps. Trust me on this, you will be burnt out or really tired even if you manage your time wisely. And that applies to any students; not exclusive for gunners.

Thats what deep dark corners of the library are for.
