Looking for lead on a good Apex Locator. I just finished a course in endodontics and really enjoyed it. They made us learn to find the apex by tactile instrumentation and radiograph, and prohibited us from using apex locators until we get to the clinic floor. Unfortunately, they didn't really give us any insight on a good apex locator to buy. I've looked into Dentsply's new apex locator that sells for $575.00, but I was wondering if anyone here had any other suggestions or any experience with Dentsply's apex locator.

I found the Root ZX 2 Apex Locater by JMorrata to be very good with great results. You can even even add an extra rotary handpeice along with it for more money. I beleive it cost around $1000. One of my freinds who is also an endodontist says he works with it almost all the time. But again this is my personal prefrence but overall if you want to buy an apex locater, buy a good one, even if it cost you more.
Good Luck

I'll second the root zx, great product, and widely reguarded as the "gold standard" of apex locators. I had mine perform flawlessly in hypochlorite, blood, puss, EDTA, you name it. Great customer service too, my partner had a problem with his (okay his assistant accidently knocked over a cup of hypochlorite on it  ) and Morita had a brand new loaner fed exed overnight to our office. They had the repair done and the original unit back in less than a week!

Our school is currently doing a group buy on the ZX2 for $600 if 10 people sign up. Contact Maria Del Real (product Specialist/Educational Department at J. Morita). I believe they are located in Cali.
