So apparently, I got a PM from the admin saying that some people found my screen name to be offensive. That wasn't my intention at all but I apologize if anybody cruising the forums here were offended by it. All of you are great people and the last thing I'd want to do is offend someone.

In anycase, I just wanted to get this message across before they shut down my account. I'll be re-registering under a different name (perhaps andy milonakis or something)

Thats ridiculous. There is nothing at all offensive about your screename. Its a description of a piece of feces, thats all. Nothing derogatory targeted at another person, much less even the turd. People need to relax and think before getting offended.

Did you ever get any messages from someone that said your name was offensive? It's so strange what offends people these days. I see People magazine on the shelf at the supermarket and that really offends me. The fact that all these pathetic celebrity whiners still find something to complain or "struggle over" despite having being paid millions of dollars for doing squat. Walmart is offensive too. And people are getting shot all the time for no reason. And politicians continue to lie.

It was a weird username, but certainly not offensive. It's not as though this was a "scratch and sniff" website. And it's not as though this is the Student Reverend Network. Or the Student Condescension Network. I wonder if this person who was so offended has ever used a toilet? Likely quite constipated. You should have changed your username to Colace or Docusate.

I got no messages from any individual regarding the offensiveness of HotSteamingTurd. All I got was a PM from the admin saying that "a handful of people did" find it offensive. Maybe someone was just pissed off at something I said, I have no idea really and it's a waste of time pursuing the matter further. Odd as the name was, I really liked it and I actually got some PMs from people who said that they found the name hilarious.

Anyways, I considered other names after receiving that PM such as HotCarl, NuclearCarl, DirtySanchez, etc. but I was sure I would run into the offensiveness issue again very soon 🙂

And regarding the avatar picture, that was my facial expression when I was on the toilet jettisoning a hot steaming turd a few minutes ago. Not enough fiber I guess. Seriously speaking, that picture comes from Andy Milonakis's site: www.angrynakedpat.com. It's got some weird stuff on it and you all should check it out if you haven't yet.

C'est la vie...hopefully none of you folk I've been talking to in the Pathology forums weren't offended by my previous screen name.

I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. I really would appreciate a reason as to how your old screen name was offensive. Weird, yes, but offensive? I think your having to change your name is completely silly.

Although this is a bit of a tangent, the stuff posted in the everyone and lounge forums is way more offensive than your old screen name. I do understand that those forums are not 'really moderated' anymore, but even so how could one compare 'beating your significant other' jokes to a silly name like hotsteamingturd? Although I am not advocating for more moderation (I'd prefer as little as possible), I just cannot see how they'll let that go but then find that your screename is offensive.

thanks daisygirl, to be honest, i was very surprised when i got the PM...first i was pissed, then i was more confused...still confused. if somebody was pissed about my old SN and wanted to mouth off at me, i would still want to hear it to see the explanation as to how it was offensive.

speaking of the Lounge, the mod said i could post there on my turd acct but not on any "serious" forums like these. So I checked it out...there are some threads that are just plain wrong...but funny.

still, according to the PM, i offended some individual(s) and if that was truly the case, i feel bad about it.

interestingly, i can still log into that acct even though the account is apparently on hold.

Well, I would say that is a really crappy double standard. I do understand that the webmonster has every right to do whatever he wants with this site (and I'm very appreciative of this site 🙂 ), however given what you have said, I don't believe that you should be forced to change your screename. Anyone offended by your old screen name really has some sort of issue, and they really need to do something other than getting so uptight about a silly screen name.

I will be starting third year soon. I've been cranky since day one of med school. I can say that I've honestly hated med school from the very start. I know that sounds terrible, but I just can not see how I should have felt jubilant about the loads of minutiae to memorize and just the overall culture of fear that is perpetuated. One last pet peeve is the egotistical nature of so many physicians. I sure hope that I've chosen the right career . I keep telling myself that things will get better as I go on

I share your sentiments. Although I wasn't too angry during M1 and M2 year because I skipped all classes and just did stuff on my own and got decent but not great grades (didn't get my AOA on or anything special like dat). The PhD years were some of the best years of my life. Didn't like M3 year much however...partly because of what you just stated.

It does get better. Med school is a very turbulent time in one's life. I haven't met too many physicians who would want to go back to that.

Having started my 4th year though, life is so much better. If you got past M1 and M2 year and USMLE step 1, you'll make it through 3rd year as well and then afterwards, it's all good. I found 3rd year to be quite long and thought it would never end but it eventually ended. I guess I'll go by the mantra, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

And if you happen to go into pathology, you'll bypass all the hassles and turbulence that comes along with internship/transitional year.
