"Has your education ever been interrupted or affected adversely for reasons other than deficiencies in conduct or academic performance?"

Does this include medical issues?

More particularly in my case there are two things i am considering putting down.
1st: When i was a sophmore i was REALLY sick for a little over a month with symptoms almost identical to Mono. But, i didnt have mono, and it took awhile to figure out what was wrong. I Failed a class because of it.

2nd: About the time as the 1st issue happened i started to get strep throat at least 3-4-5 times a year, until i convinced doctors to consider a tonsillectomy. (I havn't had once since btw, and that was about a year ago 😀)

I feel both really affected me academically, but am not sure what they are looking for. Also i dont want to seem like im making unnecessary excuses.

Any Advice, especially from adcomms?!

That section is exactly where you would put anything about yours or a family member's medical problems that would have caused you to miss a lot of school and therefore do poorly...you're not making excuses if they're the ones who are asking the question.

Would be completely pointless to list something that made it a lot harder to do well, but you did so anyway (grades are still very good)?

Not sure i follow you MTD?

I think he means it seems like it would be pointless to describe medical issues that made you miss school if you ended up doing well and earning decent grades anyway, which isn't the case since you failed a course due to it.

Ok, i follow now. Yea, only want to mention it because i feel my grades did suffer from both things. Thanks for your response victoria and MTD.

Anyone else who agrees or disagrees?! Let me know what you think!

Yes, that is pretty much what I meant. In my case, I didn't miss any class because of it, but I have a pretty bad sleep disorder. That makes everything much harder, but I still keep my grades up. I feel like that just sounds conceited, like "look things were really hard but I did great anyway," whereas in dru's case it's for an explanation of a particular grade. So, pointless to mention? What you think?

Well, the question specifically asks if it has an adverse effect on your grades, so that wouldn't be the right place to mention it - not that I'm detracting from your overcoming a huge issue. If you wanted to mention it at all, more appropriate place might be the personal statement.

Oh I didn't realize the wording was like that. Good call. Thank you.

PS: I have had the exact same thoughts about my initials MD lol 😀. I think oral surgery is out for me though. TOO LONG
