Appeal for Dissmisal

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am in 0-6 pharmacy school, and this fall semester I had two D's which resulted in getting me dismissed. The school rules were that you were to only have one D per semester so that is why I was not put on probation before getting dismissed. I did not have any death in the family or medical problems. it was just the classes were tough, i still want to proceed in the school but I do not want to say in my letter that the class were hard. Any ideas would be much grateful thanks

What school do you go to?

& what courses did ya get D's in?

Also how much tuition have you already paid?

the thing about this school is that I would just need a 2.3 to move to the graduate school and will not have to take the PCAT

Wait, you want us to help you lie in your letter to appeal your dismissal? I don't think so buddy, sounds like their policy is working just fine. Tell us why you even deserve to have the dismissal overturned.

Without being able to describe and document legitimate and true "extenuating circumstances" it appears you don't have much of a case. Getting a D == not trying hard enough in most cases (we're talking about minimal standards, not taking graduate-level courses). Good luck.

Did you bother to address the issue during the semester? If you knew you were struggling with these two courses did you talk to the professor/course coordinator or even your academic adviser? If you decided to be vocal about it until AFTER the semester ended and the note of dismissal, there's not much you can really do....

This is what our school told us as well. They are willing to work with you if you admitted to the problem up front.

I don't think you can just make up excuses. If there are excuses it will likely require proper documentation so just think before you act.

What year are you in?

I am not asking ya for a lie, such like "my grandma died and that is why I couldnt perform well" I just want ideas to put in my essay,I cant just put the classes were too hard that is why I didnt do so well because that would not cut it.

I would suggest you attribute it to something like:

Poor stress management
Poor time management
Immaturity

And include a plan explaining what steps you WILL take and what steps you have ALREADY taken to rectify these deficiencies. Stuff like "I enrolled in study skills class" or "I'm getting counseling to improve my time management."

Good luck!

So why didn't you do well then?

Poor time management. Play too many video games? Go to too many parties? Is your idea of "studying" where you put the book on the desk and then open up a web browser and glance at the book every once in a while?

Do you even deserve to stay in the program is a better question.

He said physics and organic chemistry was too hard. I believe he was in 2nd year before being dismissed.

Johnny, just to let you know, these appeals never work. I haven't heard of a single case where an appeal overturned exam marks or dismissal. So whatever you write might not probably work.

You might want to just start over or start over at a different school or different profession all together. If you thought organic chem and physics was hard, I'm not sure you can deal with the harder pharmacy courses.

thats a bit harsh. Nobody is perfect and past performances do not guarantee future results. If you looked at my grades in undergraduate and now you would think they were two different people. I never got Ds but people can put forth the effort if they really want to.

To the OP, i am not implying that you are lying, I am warning of the consequences if you do. You really need to make a good case that things will turn around if you are given another shot. You need to set things straight. Hopefully you made some friends in higher places. Hopefully you kiss a lot of ass. But you have to have a reason why you weren't doing well and you certainly need a well thought out plan.

ok thanks for the help, Mods you can delete this thread thanks

too bad that being in the military did not teach you class or empathy.

Do you have an amazon account? Next time you're on their website, look for a sarcasm detector because you probably need one.

There is no sarcasm in that post to detect.

Do I think the OP deserves to be in the situation that he is in? Yes.. most likely (ie you know things are awry when you post orgo chem questions on a pharmacy message board)

Do I think he should be asking for excuses on a pharmacy message board? NO.

But this dude is already in a miserable situation so why add to that? You can state your opinion but some things are just not necessary.

2 cents.

^^agreed. And I'm a crank.

OP you got some great advice from A4MD, apart from that I don't know what else you can do.
