Does anyone have any experience with the course classification appeal system for AMCAS? How likely is it to occur?

I was an economics major. My econometrics course was heavily focused on statistics, and since I received an A, I want it in my sGPA. This econometrics course is listed on my transcript as "ECON XXX"; however, if you look at my university's course catalog it is dual listed as ECON XXX and STAT XXX. I have a feeling when I submit AMCAS, they are going to change it away from a math course. Will I have the opportunity to state my case and explain that this course is also classified as a stat course despite not appearing on my transcript that way?

What's the name of the course? If you classify it as math I think it'll probably stay that way, depending on the course title.

You can appeal after the fact, but AFAIK there's no way to include a note with the app initially.

Hm, tough. Could go either way. Check the school's course description, as this will be your best bet during a potential appeal process.

Here's the description: "Joint offering of the Economics and Statistics Departments. Construction and testing of economic models: regression theory, parameter estimation, and statistical techniques applicable to economic models. Prerequisite: Math 1231 or equivalent; Stat 1051, 1053, 1111 or equivalent. (Fall and Spring)"

Classify as BCPM anyways and if they change it, that's that. It's unlikely that an appeal would work if AMCAS doesn't even classify engineering classes as BCPM.

I understand you want that A in your sGPA, but its not a math class. I was an econ major and took econometrics along with classes such as applied financial modeling and "mathematical topics in economics" which used tough calc partial derivatives and differential equations. Still, the math was used in the application of economics, a social science. FWIW I would just drop it. Schools are going to see what classes you took. And, I doubt AMCAS will let you classify it as math, as it is an economics course titled ECONOmetrics.
