Has anyone appealed a rejection before? I would appreciate any advice on what to focus on, how to format my letter etc. I recieved a secondary application from the school (UCLA) and was rejected for an interview. Thanks!

I would point out why you deserve a second look and mention anything that you have done since applying. You should also point out why you MUST go to UCLA as opposed to other schools. One last thing, I think that it's important to address this letter to the right person so it will actually get read. If you just send it to the admissions office, I'm afraid that the secretary will just toss it or put it into your folder, which would never come up for a review because you were rejected already. Hope that helps.

BTW, do you mind telling me when you find out about the decision from UCLA?

Each school has its own procedure, so check their website. But given the partially subjective nature of selection of individuals for interview, I doubt you will have strong grounds for an appeal. Could taint your candidacy should you choose to apply to the same school next year, I would think. A better approach would be to simply contact the dean and politely try to find out why you were not offered an interview, and whether there is any chance of reconsideration. If not, you can see if he could tell you what you can do to improve your application for next year.

at my ucla interview a student mentioned that they didnt get an interview at ucla, had gotten acceptances at other uc's, appealed on the grounds that they were clearly competitive, and was later accepted. it has happened and is not impossible; i think if youre a really strong applicant you can jump back into the pool. the person i spoke to also got accepted to every UC so perhaps they were a fluke. worth a try i imagine

The OP has posed this same question in the Allo and Reapplicants forums.

You seem to be new here. The moderators will close duplicate posts in multiple forums.

I replied to your post in one of the other forums. Good luck to you, but Your energy would probably be better spent talking to admissions people re: why they rejected you and what to do better for next year.
