1st and 2nd season, a little. Not anymore. It's pure fiction.

Yes. I was told that at one particular school they scan it and put it on a projector screen when they're discussing your application. I don't know if this is actually true or not but you probably want to get something a little better quality than a passport photo at Kinko's. You're already spending a ton of money on this process so I doubt that a little more will hurt.

No. I know an ED doc who said that not enough people die.

Probably a little, in that subconscious sense. Then again, I looked like a deer in the headlights on my Kinko's passport photo, and had no particular problem getting interview invitations or acceptances.

If this is your biggest worry in the admissions process, you're home free.

Kay, I have this composite picture from my sorority. In it I'm wearing an off-the shoulder black thingie (I don't know what it's called...but we all had to wear it) and pearls. I think I look good in the pic, but I don't know if it's too risque for adcoms. I mean, it's very professional quality, and it's not slutty or anything...but still...off the shoulders...what do you guys think? Should I just head over to Walgreens?

Hah, I was thinking that too. I didn't really put a lot of thought into my admissions photos. I went to Costco. They took a picture. I looked like ass. But I sent 'em in anyway, because hey, a photo's a photo. I think the whole affair ran me about $10. Sometimes, I really wonder about these people who shell out for the right photos and the right suit and the right padfolio and the right stationary for their interviewer thank-you letters. . .makes me think I really half-assed it! 🙄

I believe it is called a drape photo. My g/f had those for her private high school graduation. I think they look pretty classy. As long as it isn't showing too much cleavage (most of them weren't).

One of my friends said he only gives high interview scores to beautiful women and ugly guys, that way he helps ensure that the incoming class has lots of available, good-looking females surrounded by guys who don't stand a chance.

First the "maintain your hotness" thread....now this...

Well, to answer the OPs question, I think it does matter. Because of that reason, I cut out pictures of attractive people from magazines and send them in with the application. That way if my atrocious stats don't get me an interview, surely my good looks will and then I'll have a funny story to tell the adcoms.

Alas, not the angle I had! Really, it was fine, though I was somewhat traumatized when the University of Michigan posted a piece of paper with all the pictures of that day's interviewees on the admissions office door! I thought, oh no, my awful picture. . .until I realized that there were definitely worse ones up there. 😉 I'm still not sure what purpose the posted pictures served, unless they were just making sure that if any of us got lost, we could be returned to the proper place, rather like small children.
