PhD/PsyD APPIC Internship Phase II - onward and upward!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was just browsing through the phase 2 list and saw a site where I interviewed -Buffalo VA. I would be happy to share my experience on in person interview with anyone interested in that site.

I am actually surprised that there are this many spots left

I know that is probably cold comfort for folks moving into Phase II, but there did seem to be quite a few great APA-accredited sites.

It is comforting! It's really good to have sites that I can get excited about at this point in the process. If I have to move to a place where I don't know anyone, at least I will be excited about the work, right?

Good luck! I have been through Phase II before and hope you all find the match of your dreams!

I interviewed at the following and am happy to share my experiences via PM; these are good sites that deserve good interns.

-Southwest VA Doctoral Consortium
-Kentucky River Community Care
-Youth Opportunity Center

Hi there,

I wanted to hop on here briefly and post a message of support for those who are applying in Phase II of the Match. After not matching in Phase I in the year I applied, I was initially heartbroken and embarrassed, but I regrouped, submitted a flurry of applications in Phase II, and matched to an Accredited VA where I had an absolutely wonderful experience. I know it feels like crap to keep on submitting applications after you thought you'd be done with the whole process, but it's do-able and it looks like there are some really great sites still available this year. Best of luck!!!!

I've interviewed at Aurora Mental Health and Hawaii Internship Consortium (HI-PIC), so if anyone is considering these two sites and would like more information, I'll be happy to share my experiences.

Best of luck & hang in there, folks! I've interviewed at the Alaska Consortium and IMCES - I'd be happy to share my impressions, if anyone is interested.

Just want to say thank you to everyone offering to share their experiences interning or interviewing at these sites. For me that feels really helpful because we won't be able to interview in person generally speaking, so having someone who has seen it firsthand describe their experience is really good info to have available. Thank you!

I interviewed at University of Rochester Psychiatry, so PM me if you want info about the site.

I'm a current intern at Texas tech counseling center and would be happy to share my wonderful experience

I am floored at how many fantastic APA-accredited counseling centers still have openings. I interviewed at Iowa, Michigan, St. Thomas, and Wisconsin-Madison, and I would be happy to share my experiences with folks who are applying there. I also notice NC State still has three spots (perhaps because they're newly accredited?) and definitely felt good about them as well.

Another one throwing in a good word: University of Pittsburgh was a great site--I liked the interview a lot. They're a great APA accredited UCC site that has a spot open.

Also, this process is whack--so I'm sending out hugs to those who are bummed today. I know several people from my program who went on to have incredible experiences at Phase II sites (and many comment that it helped them discover sites they never otherwise would have connected with).

I did in-person interviews at the Tuscaloosa VA, Gulf Coast VA, and the Texas Valley Coastal Bend VA during this cycle and would be happy to answer any PMs as I found a lot to like about each of these 3 sites.

I'm totally bummed for everybody who is being forced to go through this again. Best of luck to all, and I truly hope that you find a great site to spend next year at the end of this process.

I interviewed at McGuire VA and WJB dorn VA and really liked both. I'm happy to talk about my experiences at either site if it is helpful to others, PM me questions if needed.

Hi,

Good Luck everyone in Phase II
I interviewed at few sites listed in Illinois. If anyone needs the scope IM me I will be more than happy to share my experiences.

Albany Med Consortium is a fantastic training site and includes VA training. Happy to share what I know with interested applicants.

I also interviewed at University of Rochester-Psychiatry (though the child track so I have less specific helpful info to share) but they knocked my socks off- clearly an extremely well-run site and the environment seems super supportive. Happy to share general info about this site.

I interviewed at Medical College of Georgia/Norwood VA, although not for the track with an opening and ended up ranking it fairly high. I'm happy to give my perspective as well.

I interviewed there for the psych of women track last year. Happy to answer PMs!

My old post doc site is on the Phase II list, which really surprises me, and the internship there always seemed really amazing (I myself applied for it back in the day and was rejected!) So, yeah, definitely some great sites on there.

Good luck to folks during this process.

I was here a few years ago, wasn't successful.

But the experiences and another year of training made me such a more competitive applicant. Do your best, but do not get bogged down by anything through this internship process!!!

I matched, but I just saw that there is an APA accredited internship in ped psych near where my husband is stationed. I don't know how I missed it when applying...I couldn't find anything near him, but this is a well known university. Ugh...

There are some solid sites in the mix:
UF Health Siences
U of Iowa
A number of VAs...Ann Arbor VA is excellent.
UM Counseling

...and I only went through half of the listed sites.
I'm really bummed about UF. I matched to a site in my top 3, but I didn't know UF had a ped psych program. I'm disappointed that I didn't come across it because my husband is stationed an hour from there. I couldn't find anything near him so I applied elsewhere, which means ANOTHER year of long distance marriage 🙁

The list of sites participating in Phase II is surprising. There are many good if not excellent sites participating this year.

That seems like one of the strongest Match II lists I've seen in the last couple of years, based entirely on my gut reaction to many of the sites.

Best of luck to those of you going through it. My internship went through match II before and have talked about getting high quality folks from it when they did, so don't necessarily take this as a hit on you or your qualifications.

I really appreciate everyone sharing info about the remaining sites! I am wondering though, anyone else here going through phase II? Happy to commiserate too..

I just want to say that that super sucks, and I am so sorry that this process is so nuts. 😢

Hi all! I'm currently an intern at the Canandaigua VA in upstate NY and we were just approved yesterday for a third intern position under the general mental health track for the 2017-2018 year! We matched for our other 2 positions and will be participating in Phase II to fill the new 3rd position. Please feel free to reach out to the training director Dr. Dumitrescu for more info: [email protected] Good luck everyone!

Hey all, did anyone else submit apps in phase II this year? Looking for some solidarity while we play the waiting game again :xf:

I did. I was kinda surprised when I didn't match phase 1 because I had a good number of interviews 🙁. But I'm glad the mad dash to write cover letters is over! I'm also super shocked because I've already received 2 invites to interview! I wasn't expecting it to be this fast! :nailbiting:

Hooray, solidarity! I was surprised with my result as well, since I had six interviews, but I guess that's just how the cookie crumbled. I can't believe you've heard from sites already! I haven't heard from any yet, but I don't really have the energy left to stress about it right now 😴

I had 6 as well!! Right there with you! Previous students who have gone to phase 2 in my program have had great luck, so finger crossed! good luck to you!!

Will there be an interview thread created for Phase II? At the end of this first day, I received three e-mails to interview and another e-mail indicating that they were reviewing our applications and will let us know within the next couple of days.
