i was reading in another forum that DO schools have a slightly later timeline then MD schools? is this correct? is it true that the season opens on june 1st?

also, if i am taking classes this summer and want them on my transcript, should i wait to apply after they are done or is there a way around this?

Yes AACOMAS starts accepting applications around June but I think they allow you to fill it out in May.

If you mark classes as "currently in progress" then AACOMAS will NOT review your application until all transcripts are received.

You could mark the classes "to be completed" and AACOMAS will send out your application once all transcripts are in and verified but your summer grades are not included.

If you want summer classes included. Fill out the application when AACOMAS opens, finish the PS, and send transcripts from all schools other than your summer school. This way you are only waiting on one item when your class is completed. This is what I did last year. i also had to resubmit one transcript and luckily I did the initial request well before sending in summer transcripts.

May 1 = applications available

June 1 = earliest submission date

Hey thanks for posting this. Quick Question->
What if someone is taking classes in Summer I (short 5 week session) in June? Would you recommend "to be completed" even though you are "currently in progress"?

Depends on your GPA, GPA trend, and how much it will change your GPA. Giving us this info would lead to better advice.

If your GPA is 3.3+ and you have consistent grades I'd submit June 1st.

If this class is a retake of a D/F definitely wait.

I am a little confused...maybe Hunter Gatherer or anyone else can help clarify!

I am graduating next month for the Univ of Wisconsin. I will be taking next year off as I apply to medical schools. I am taking Analytical Chemistry during the summer -8 week 9june 19-Aug 11) term here. I am taking the April MCAT.
I want to submit the application in June as soon as MCAT score come out.

Do you usually wait for the MCAT score to come to you and then submit or does AACOMAS get it automatically?

Do I select class in progress for Analytical and have my University send my transcripts upto This Spring semester?

Then In August can I update my file with Analytical Chem added to the transcript and have my university send to whole transcript again?

oh an my GPA 3.5 overall and maybe 3.2 science but will probably go up after this last full semester.
Any help appreciated 🙂

If you wait for the MCAT results to be in, you are already too late in the application process.

It takes a while for the application to process and eventually for the application to get to the schools. This needs to be completed prior to your MCAT results being released, since the MCAT release is independent of your application. You must request for your scores to be sent to AACOMAS on the MCAT website.

Any later transcripts after your application has been processed should be sent directly to the schools.

Maybe I confused you OSU doc. I said I was taking next year off ...........so I am apply for the 2007 class. Now my questions above will make more sense

4.0 Sci GPA (BS in Engineering from large state school) and a 3.7-3.8 over all. Non-trad. Taking Biochem I Summer I - one of the state schools I'm applying to requires it.

Does anyone else wish this was all behind them? Like, wake me up when september ends?

No confusion --> My response is still the same. Applications are now closed at almost all schools for the entering class of 2006.

Applications for the entering class of 2007 are available May 1 of this year and can be submitted June 1.

submit June 1st without question.

mark the biochem as "to be completed" so schools will see you are planning to take it. No need to have it completed before submitting the application or before interviews.

UNECOM makes a big fuss about this and gives you the impression that it needs to completed NOW but that is not the case. Just needs to definitely be completed before med school classes start.

As OSUDOC say you can start applying for the Fall 2007 entering class starting May-June 2006

submit applications June 1st and you will just be waiting for the MCAT scores. AACOMAS will turn this around in 1-2 weeks.

If you wait for MCAT grades to come out and then submit grades you are looking at about 4-8 weeks processing time since they need to verify your transcripts.

If you mark Analytic chem as "class in progress" and submit your application, it will not be added to your GPA no matter what. When you submit that is what all schools will see. you can only update "completed courses" and "class in progress". You can not change that status of courses once the application is submitted.

you should submit june 1st in my opinion unless you think that chem class will boost your GPA above .1 grade points, it is a repeated course, or want to show more consistency.

Thank you OSUDOC and HunterGAtherer

I think I will submit my AACOMAS and AMCAS as soon as possible around June 1st. And then I will wait for MCAT score to be released and send them.

I don't mind Analytical Chemistry as in progress. I am not hinging on it to raise my GPA much. This semester will help me with that GPA science increase.

I now understand that my GPA can not be updated based on Analytical Chem BUT DO I STILL SEND A NEW TRANSCRIPT TO EACH APPLICATION SERVICE in AUGUST or Do you send that to the Universities you are applying to??? 🙂

Thanks Again!

Send transcripts to AACOMAS/AMCAS for classes in progress.

Your application will NOT complete until they receive those transcripts and all others for classes already completed or in progress

I would send the transcript to both the application service and each school to get the application as complete as quickly as possible, so that you may recieve an earlier interview and/or acceptance.

In this situation AACOMAS will not even process his application until they receive the updated transripts. So sending transcripts to the school will be a waste since they will have no academic info on him.

I would have to disagree. My applications were processed and I recieved interviews prior to submitting summer transcripts, even though the classes were listed as pending, and the semester was complete.

I even did an interview in December, and one of the schools had not recieved a transcript from the summer.

AACOMAS will process the application immediately and send them to the schools prior to recieving any pending class work.

Thanks OSU DOC...

Wait this is starting to get more confusing!

So Hunter gatherer said "Your application will NOT complete until they receive those transcripts and all others for classes already completed or in progress"

The Analytical Chem class will appear on my trainscript I send in June as in progress. I just need to send a new one with the final grade in August, even if that doesn't count towards my GPA.

And how could AACOMAS and AMCAS "not even process my file until they recieved my transcripts" or review you or make your file complete untill all transcripts for future classes are available. This is not a retake class. That did not make sense. I am graduating after 3 years (next month) with a BS in Mol Bio and a lot of my friends will take class es all next year while I am taking the year off and we are all planing on entering the 2007 matriculating class. So obviously my friends will have their files complete in the summer too even though they are still taking classes for another year.

Someone please help clear up the confusion! Sorry 😳

I'm not sure that I will agree entirely with that. The following is from an email of the admissions director of one school:

"Your AACOMAS application indicates that you are in the process of completing additional coursework...Once you complete this coursework, please send a copy of your transcript to AACOMAS and directly to (School name ommitted).Although AACOMAS will send an updated profile sheet that reflects your GPA for these courses, they will not provide us with the details on your individual course grades."

You are considered complete when all grades for completed courses and "courses in progress" are received. Classes designated as "planned to take in the future" are not calculated in the GPA and transcripts are not needed for those courses.

Based on what OSUDOC experienced and scpod's email it seems like you should submit June 1st no matter what your situation. I have no clue what the schools are seeing as far as grades, transcripts, GPA before verification is complete beyond that you want to apply to their school.

I'm not going to comment on these topics any further since my experience was different.
