How important is it to apply early? I was told that its important to have your application ready by June 1st. Because of this, I'm busting my ass during the semester to study for DAT's. Is it worth it to do this? I'd much rather wait til after I graduate May 14th-ish and take about 2 weeks more to study.

id say its pretty important to submit your application early. as for HOW important...that's difficult to quantify or say. personally i don't think that submitting IMMEDIATELY when the application opens (i think it was may 15 this year) would be any different than say, waiting two/three weeks.

basically you need to account for everything in your application. if you're a strong candidate? then don't worry about about doing it exactly by june 1st. just make sure it's within a month of the release of the application. i would imagine that would give you a good chance.

just make sure by "busting ass" to study for the DAT, you're not screwing yourself over with your GPA or just half-assing the application/PS/other stuff.

are you a cal grad? haha, cuz if so, good luck!

Here's what I did:

grad. may 15., e-submit as close to june.1 as possible, took dat jul. 24. It worked out just fine.

it's better to get a good dat score than to rush and have to retake it.

if i were u i would graduate, then take the dat jun. 15, or one week later. That would give you some time to finish up school and move, then step up and study for a month. If u submit everything right after your DAT, you are still considered early apps.

You can apply without DAT scores. It takes AADSAS about a month to process your app so it won't be sent to schools until early July, assuming June 1st submission. This being said, it also takes the ADA 3-4 weeks to process your DAT score and send it to schools but you can still take it in July and be fine.

I'd vote get your AADSAS finished and completed in June (sooner the better, the 6-8 weeks processing is more like 3-4 if you get it in very early) for sure, then finish up secondaries and DAT in July. Most places start throwing around interviews in September/October so July gives them 4-6 weeks to give yourself a fair shot.

Apply as early as you feel comfortable with. Everyone's comfort level is different. If you want time off after school, take it. If you want to give yourself the BEST chance, apply very early in the cycle. To be honest, your brain will be "trained" to perform at its peak right after you take other exams...

My app wasn't mailed until late Sept...schools didn't even get a good look at my app until late Nov/Early Dec at the earliest.
