Hey so I'm wondering if I have a shot at MD /Do schools
Should I apply this cycle and where?
My undergrad Cgpa is 3.69
My undergrad science is 3.64
I had a major upward trend
I did my master s of science and got a gpa of 3.65
I did research for 6 months, years of clinical work/shadowing, worked at a retail store and restaurant, participated in many volunteer events
I took the mcat 3 times
First time I got a 497 (123/127/123/124)and applied to MD and 1 DO school . I got one interview at a DO school in Pomona CA
But ultimately rejected
I then took the mcat again and got a 497 again (124/124/123/127)so I didn't apply
Just recently I got my third MCAT which is a 505 (128/126/124/127)
I feel my 124 in bio is a big red flag
Anyways should I apply? Do I have any chances anywhere in the US? School list help?
Thanks

So you are a reapplicant with a 23-24 x2 followed by 28, and in the previous cycle got a single DO interview

I'd apply to a broad range of DO, wouldn't expect any luck with MD (unless you are URM and/or resident of a state with very low stats med schools, usually found in the South or Midwest)

Why convert to old mcat stats? But guess so
From California

For us old folks "505" communicates a lot less about your competitiveness than "28" does. The new MCAT values for schools have only been visible for like, a couple days.

Yeah as a Californian unless you are a minority member, MD is a waste of time and money in my opinion. Apply to a broad set of DO.

I second @efle unless you can get that MCAT score up significantly by retaking it for the 4th time.

Is there absolutely no shot at MD?
As a Californian reapplicant carrying your previous scores you'd really need some kind of special hook to get any interest. No such hook is apparent in your ECs above and it sounds like your are not in a rare demographic like URM or rural background/evidence of a future in underserved areas.

My family is 5 generation South African but I'm born here
I'm not black though I look Indian middle eastern for some reason lol
Would that be URM?

Can I get a potential school list?

White and born here is most def not URM. Special hooks would be things like evidence that you want to serve in an underserved rural community, some kind of major success in research, veteran status, starting up a successful nonprofit, etc.

I personally have no idea about the relative competitiveness of DO programs compared to one another, or even if there is an official source of median stats for them. @Goro might be able to help.

The 3x MCAT poor scores are indeed a big red flag, especially that poor Bio score.

So, DOA for MD

Apply broadly to DO schools except the coastal Touros, KCU, AZCOM and CCOM. Especially target the newest schools.

@Goro you think I can score an interview at Pomona western ?
No shot at nymc?
You mean a re-interview? What has improved since your last II? I'm actually surprised they granted you one last time.

For MD, the MCAT history is lethal, even for NYMC. While I normally group them into the Albany/Drexel class, their median MCAT score is 512 with the 25th %ile being a 508. Their 10th %ile is a 504. Your average is ~500.

yes a re-interview. I completed my masters of science program in Neuroimaging and Informatics. I improved my MCAT scores from a 497 to a 505
Oh so basically no shot at MD

These are DO schools where you could receive an interview with your stats:
ACOM
ARCOM
BCOM
WCU-COM
LMU-DCOM
UP-KYCOM
WVSOM
VCOM (all 3 schools)
UIWSOM
NYIT-Arkansas
RVU-Utah
ATSU-SOMA

Any other DO s?
If I had to apply to Md schools which ones would you guys recommend ?
