Applicant numbers

Question for ya:

When applicant numbers to an individual school are listed, are those the number of people who applied through AMCAS or the number of people who sent in secondaries?

And when reapplying, when a school asks if I've applied previously are they referring to AMCAS or the secondary?

I believe in both cases they are referring to applying through AMCAS or the primary application.
