Word of caution. I submitted on 6/21, all transcripts have been at AMCAS since July, yet no movement in my application at all. Today, I got sick of being patient and gave AMCAS a call. All applications like mine who were submitted in June should be verified already and should have been sent as of August 3rd. The woman I spoke with said it was very odd that nothing has happened to mine. So for all of you who are in the similar situation, IT IS NOT NORMAL. Just thought I should let everyone know that if you are waiting around and being "patient," stop now. It is time to be proactive.

So what should we do? I talked to somebody yesterday and mentioned that I had submitted the 23rd of June and she said that meant mine "should be coming up soon". ??

That's it, I've had it. I have reaching my tolerance threshold. I don't have any of those X, no button, nothing!!!!!!! I am calling them tomorrow and demanding an explanation as to why my application is just sitting there and has been for 7 weeks now, almost 8 weeks.

Thanks for the info. Did she say what, if anything they are going to do about your application?

Does calling them help at all? The person I spoke to last week, after I cleared up credit card issues apparently, just said "soon".

*shrugs* At least they've given up on giving us fake definite answers.

I am very angry too. I fired off a letter to the President of AAMC, Jordan Cohen with a plea for help. I faxed a letter to the AMCAS section explaining the problem. I also spoke with AAMC public relations representative and explained the situation. She was very nice and is going to find out who I can speak to about it. Problem with calling the regular AMCAS number is that they have call specialists who really don't know anything. They won't give you any phone numbers for supervisors, all they will do is pass on messages. The call specialist I spoke to today gave me the direct email of her supervisor. I had her spell out the exact email address 3 times. I sent the email. Low and behold, 5 minutes later it bounced, "no such user." Anyways, the call specialist did explicitly say that it was very odd my app was not processed. She said that people who submitted after I did should not have been processed before me. She had no idea why. Anyways, I'm going to start being a real pain in their XXX. I left a message with the New York Times staff writer who wrote the article about the AMCAS screw up; I'm trying to convince her to write another one. Anyhow, I'll let you know anything I find.

I've called many times to check on my application (submitted 6/28). My transcripts and payment were supposedly received a long time ago. Every single AMCAS genius that I talk to gives me the standard BS response about all apps submitted before X date will be processed, yadda yadda...they either don't know what the heck is going on or they don't really care! If there is some magic phone number that will connect us with a competent AMCAS rep, please let us know! :)

You know what, I think this phenomena IS normal(in AMCAS never ever land). I think that the call staff just don't know that, or aren't allowed to clue us in. I got the "oh my gosh you submitted in the first week and aren't processed" response from AMCAS two weeks ago. If it were normal for all of us who submitted in June to be processed then I think there would be more posts on here about it. I could definitely be wrong, but I have only noticed a handful of people posting that theirs were processed and sent to med schools in completion. I submitted the 28th of June and have called three times to verify that my transcripts have been there for months and that everything is ready to go. I was repeatedly told that it would be done for sure by the end of each of the weeks I called! If someone could clue me in on exactly what day of the year the "end of the week" is in AMCAS time I would really appreciate it  Regardless, If schools were receiving a decent number or normal apps (or at least those submitted in June) I don't think that they would be scrambling to get paper summaries and sending out secondaries without screening, ie Northwestern, they always screen for secondaries but not this year. In fact, they ask for you to send your paper AMCAS in with your secondary. And as I posted before - MSSM as of a few days ago, had received absolutely no applications in completion and only just got the emails etc of their applicants. So anyways, to make a long rambling short..... I think (sad but true) only a handful have been processed - period - regardless of submission date. Sorry to all of you who have heard this whining a million too many times! May you all find red X's on your app in the morning :)

I was in the same position last week...submitted 6-22...no processing. I called several times and asked to talk to someone in charge of the processing. Each time, I was told I would receive a call back but of course didn't. They did take my name and info. Only after two different calls did I finally get the change notification button (there for 2 and a half weeks) and then, finally, processing. I would suggest calling. Be persistant (sp?) and polite but make sure they take your name and AMCAS ID #. If they promise to call you back, don't expect a call but maybe someone in charge will see your name and ID #. I hope this helps!

I have been processed but I'm really not at any advantage over anybody else who has not been processed yet.

AMCAS has been sending out paper copies of EVERYBODY'S app, not just those who have been processed.

Thus, dont worry too much. I know its been frustrating, but its not like the people that have been processed have some kind of advantage over those who have not.

The only advantage I can see is that if AMCAS STILL cant transmit official, verified apps by the time the first round of decision making at the med schools has to be done, then the processed group might be at an advantage because all the schools I'm aware of wont give you an acceptance until they have your verified, official AMCAS. But I'd say thats a couple of months away.

A friend of mine did EDP and he applied july 28. He has 3 red Xs.

I think that they might be handling the EDPs right now...

I know it is difficult to sit by and watch all this incompetence in action with these people jeopardizing your future, but if you sit tight I'm sure it will all work out. Med schools have been pretty accomodating so far in dealing with AMCAS's ineptitude.

Thanks all for the comforting posts. I was calm, cool, and collected up until now. The previous thread that some applicants got Stanford rejections was what disturbed me and started to tick me off since it is obvious that they don't have our applications yet. I just didn't plan on all of my pre-med years culminating in an evaluation process that consisted of my name, address, email, GPA, and MCAT. Nevertheless, I'm going to see if I can get some real answers tomorrow. May the force be with you all.

Guys

I called them up today, and this is what one person told me and I paraphrase...

They said that they were working on the EDP applications all this time, and maybe one or two applications that weren't EDP that were processed were only "test" runs to see if everything works probably....

She said, don't worry, the EDP applications are going to be complete by the end of the week, and starting from wednesday the pple who submitted first week are getting their applications reviewed :D

I am so happpy now yaaaaaaah She said calling them and yelling at them wont help lol ;(

I have a question? Do the summaries that the schools recieve have MCAT scores and GPA. I spoke with someone in the admissions office at Robert Wood Johnson and she told me that the summary they recieved only contained my name, ss#, and address. Someone please clarify.

One of my friends (who is NOT EDP) submitted 07/10 has been completely processed. I submitted 07/09 and haven't gotten any changes yet. No 'change notification' button, no big red X's, no grade verification.

I submitted 7/6, received confirmation of receipt of transcripts but have not had any changes to my application - no change notification button, red X's, or grade verification.

The transmssion dates on your app refer to when AMCAS sent out preliminary info to schools (name, address, SSN, phone, e-mail). Sometime after that AMCAs announced it was sending out one-page summaries (including GPA and MCAT's) AND unverified paper apps, as interim measures due to the problems they were having with electronic transmittal. You can imagine how efficiently they're doing all this, while at the same time trying to get the EDP's out, fix the system, and respond to all the disgruntled applicants. So to answer your question, I would imagine that what information schools have on each applicant varies widely by school, date of application, and random AMCAS bugs that we'll never know about. I would be sure to use every alternative pathway that your schools have set up.
