Hey,

I'm currently in the application process for dental school.

My current overall GPA is 3.2 and my science GPA is 2.8-2.9

I just began studying for the DAT and plan on taking it this July or August.

I'm a biochem major. I have a long list of EC's, volunteer services, and leadership service. I have a lot of experience with other fields, such as business. My letters of rec are pretty solid. I have a lot of shadowing experience as well. My personal statement is pretty well written, displaying my well rounded background.

How do you think I will do?

Its really hard to say. GPA is definitely important, but its certainly not everything. Since your cum. GPA is decent, do well on the DAT 20+ and i'd say you have a good shot combined with the EC's you said you have.

Overall, GPA and DAT are the two most important aspects, however, a unique background and good EC's and can make up for a low GPA or low DAT.

Depends on your DAT scores. You're gonna need to do extra awesome on them to counter your GPA.

Your GPA will hurt you. The ave gpa for entering students these days is around 3.5. My class had and average GPA around 3.6. Doing well on the DAT may save you though. Also if you have an upward trend in your grades that'll help. Grades aren't everything though. Schools want to have a diverse class, but you have to demonstrate to them that you can handle the load that dental school throws at you. So definitely study hard and rock the DAT. I know of a few schools that will not even look at your app if your gpa or dat scores are below a certain threshold, but most will look at your app as a whole and take into consideration your background, experience, etc.

It all depends on your DAT. If you can get a 21 and above, I think you will be OK.
