I searched AAMC web site. I could not find out applications costs. Only thing I can find is $34 per school to add school after submitting initial application.

The reason I'm asking is that my MCAT result will be out end of June. At that time I can better choose med schools based on MCAT score.

1) Can I submit AMCAS application without selecting any med schools?
2) Is there cost advantage to choose schools along with initial application?

If you could point to link, that would be great.

Thanks,

Submit to one school to get your app verified, and then add schools later. Submitting your entire app after your MCAT score is in will cause a delay in your verification.

And in addition to that $34/school, most schools have secondary fees ranging from $50 - $125.

Too lazy to find a link but it's $160 for the first plus $34 for each additional school. Then secondaries.

Hmm... so I'm in the fee assistance program and I get 14 free apps - would I still have to pay the 160 + 34 for each additional school? Or would it just be 34 for each additional school?

Thanks,

This topic comes up quite frequently. First, you have to select at least one school in order to submit you AMCAS application. The first one is 160 and after that it is simply 34 dollars. That is pretty much all you have to pay for AMCAS. Obviously, people spend a whole lot of money on the application process because they include many different schools (primary/secondary app fees), interviews, MCAT, prep courses etc. (don't really know if this is pertinent to your questions).

From my understanding there is no cost advantage. The price of the applications don't change in regards to when you submit or add schools, but people usually wait if they aren't sure about their scores and only submit to one school. That way by the time they receive their MCAT scores they are verified and can simply add schools according to their competitiveness.

you would just have to pay 34 after the first 14. the 160 is taken care of. 🙂

For the AMCAS you would only pay 34 for each additional. So if you apply to 15 schools you pay only 34. For the AACOMAS app you start off at the 200 initial fee. So if you apply to four schools you would pay 200.

And a lot of schools will waive your secondary fee if you tell them you have FAP!

One of the best parts about FAP! You can pick schools that have no secondary essays and apply just for the hell of it because of the fee waiver for secondaries 🙂

So just to make sure that I understand this correctly: If I have FAP, I can still submit my application initially to one school let's say in early June so I can be quickly verified. Once I receive my retake score at the end of June 2014, I can add 13 more schools that I would be considered competitive for with respect to my new retake score? No matter what, I should be able to get these first 14 schools for free even if I submit my app early for only one school and decide to add 13 more later in June when I have received my new retake score? Can someone confirm this is correct for me D:? Thanks!

Yes, this is correct. It doesn't matter when you add the 14 schools, whether all once or several at different times.
