Application Deadline = Day recieved or day postmarked?

I am applying to the University of St. Augustine this week and wondering if the Dec. 15th deadline was the day they receive the application or the day it is postmarked? I'm trying to decide if I should send it express for $20 more.

I'd play it safe and shell out $20 for FedEx. While it's not an insignificant sum for us students, it pales in comparison with the tuition and salary figures. If you miss the deadline now, you'd have to wait for the next cycle meaning more living expenses, later graduation date, etc.
