Hello all,

I got a 28M on my MCAT (10 VR, 11 PS, 7 BS). My chances thread is here if you want more details: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=948280

Now, I plan on retaking the MCAT but am worried as I will be starting my first year at UCLA (transfer into biochem). I don't want to drop my GPA or ECs so more than likely I would have to study and retake the MCAT over the summer. I really want to try and study the whole 3 months using SN2ed schedule to score as high as possible. However, my school year won't end until mid June of the next year. That means I will probably have to take an Aug MCAT. However, I also want to submit my application this year and the earlier the better.

So I guess my question is, should I hold off on submitting my application to retake the MCAT and submitting in the Jun 2014 cycle or should I applied with my 28M in this upcoming cycle for DO schools?

Thanks for your feedback.

Dude, you have a year before you even think about applying (to matriculate in 2014). Do your biochem, work your GPA and see if you do well.
You said before you plateaued at 26, so I'd apply if GPA is good and you have the cash.

Did you mean to post this in pre osteopathic?

Yes. I actually like the type of philosophy osteopathic med has. Assuming that's what you mean.

And thanks for the advice Woland. I'm just anxious and stressed (school starting soon). Will do and maybe I'll ask this later when the time is nearer.

If you are shooting for DO schools, don't retake the mcat at all. What exactly is your gpa? Your wamc thread is less than helpful.

whats the point of a WAMC thread when you are not even going to post your GPA.

Then don't retake the MCAT. 28 is fine for DO.

My cGPA was 3.96 and sGPA was 4.00 while at CC. Problem is, at UCLA you don't transfer in with your gpa, it resets, hence the 0.00 sorry for not being clear enough. Made a bad assumption. Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. Just wanted to make sure the 7 didn't hinder too much.

When you fill out AACOMAS, your GPAs will mix together. I transferred, too. Just make sure you start off strong at your next school. You will be fine.

This.
Do well in your current/future classes because as far as AACOMAS and therefore med schools are concerned, you're currently at a 3.9 and 4.0 or whatever you said. Don't screw it up and you'll get lots of interviews. 😀

Your MCAT is fine for any DO school (even with the 7 in Bio) so I don't understand why you need to re-take the mCAT. But that being said, in medical school, we expect you to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time, which means we expect you to be able to study AND be able to handle a huge course load (much more intense than anything at the undegrad level).

So consider this a dress rehearsal for what medical school is like.
