i am looking at the website for school requirements, what they need and what not after and before application submission. some said that they need the application fee after we are contacted by admission officerr. but see, when we apply through AADSAS, we paid them all right?? so, where ddoes the money go if say we dont get accepted, and the fee is supposed to be paid until we are contacted???

very confused here...

Hi busz84,

When you apply and submit your AADSAS application, the fee you pay is the application processing fee and it goes to AADSAS. Schools also charge another fee. Some schools want this fee paid before you receive a secondary. Other schools don't ask you to pay this fee until *after* you receive a secondary (which is nice because you won't waste your money if you don't pass that round of the application process to get a secondary).

The AADSAS website has a print out with the deadlines schools have and the materials that they need by those deadlines (since different schools require you send in things at different times). You should print that out, but make sure you also check the school's website to confirm their deadlines/fees and the address where you're supposed to mail your materials. AADSAS listed the incorrect address for one school ( I forgot which one...a cali school?...or maybe it was michigan? I forgot...but hopefully they corrected it this year.)

Hope this helps. Good luck with applications!

That's a great question and it's easy to answer! The fee that we pay to the individual schools is in addition to the fee we pay to AADSAS. For example, I paid nearly $900 to apply through AADSAS and then I sent out around $50 to each school (whatever they requested). So my total cost was around $1500. The additional fee that you pay to each school is what the SCHOOL requires to process your application. The fee that you pay to AADSAS DOES NOT go to the schools (at least directly)--AADSAS keeps it for the services they provide.

If we don't get accepted, we don't get the money back (in most instances, if not all instances). The school keeps the money (i.e. it's the price we pay for them to look at our application). It seems like it's unfair or that the schools are raking in the cash, but I don't think that is necessarily true. It costs the school money to pay a receptionist and administrators to take time to review applications. Most likely, they use the application fees we send them to cover these costs.

Lastly, some schools require the money at the same time we submit AADSAS. In other words, they aren't going to touch or look at your application until they have money in their hands. However, other schools wait until they receive your application, review it, and then decide whether they'd like to move your application up to the next level. If so, then they request an application fee from you and secondary application.
