I am not sure if there is already a thread like this, but this probably only applies to those applicants who did not get into vet school this year. I was curious as to whether the feedback you have received from the admissions office regarding your application was helpful, or just more frustrating.

I have spoken with 3 schools now, and the majority were more or less frustrating. First off... I am from New Jersey, so no matter what, I am out of state, making the odds for me getting in significantly lower. I understand that. But when I call to ask where I went wrong with my application, I get:

"Your Gpa is great, your GRE is great. Competition this year was high, so you got eliminated in the first round. It's a shame because your essay was FANTASTIC, and if they had read it, there would be no doubt in my mind you would have gotten in. You had everything you need in there. Your recommendation letters really described who you were as a person and what a good worker you are (she even read a small exerpt). There is no reason to be denied other than abnormally high competition this year, so the cut-off was high."

When I asked how to improve... there was really nothing I could do! What do you do in that situation? The only thing I could think of was to just move to a state that has a vet school to establish residency so that my odds were better... but as you know, that's not a guarantee of getting in. It'd be really frustrating if I moved somewhere and got rejected again, and I just wasted a year of my life relocating away from my family. Plus, if I moved to establish residency, I couldn't take any classes to raise my GPA (it's kinda hard to get a 4.0 by this point though, you know?)

Anyone else have any issues with thier post-mortems??
