Hi guys!
I'm only in my 4th week of OT school but the application process I went through is still pretty fresh and I love giving personal advice/helping in whatever way I can now that I made it!

I'm open if you have any questions about the application process, interviews, GRE, grades, etc.

Now that I'm in OT school, our professors reiterate that "you are going to be okay!" Some of the faculty at my school have shared their personal stories with struggling to get to where they are now and it's been very reassuring that we don't have to be perfect and it's okay to have struggles as long as we are open to learning, challenging ourselves, and accepting feedback.

Good luck everyone!

What OT program are you attending?

I got accepted into OT school a couple of months ago, but my program doesn't start until January. I know every program is different, but I was wondering if you could tell me what sort of stuff you are studying for anatomy? I really need to get a head start

Yeah! We are taking functional anatomy with the PTs and P&O students so we have lecture together and split off into cadaver labs. We just took our first exam on the shoulder. Origins/insertions and actions of scapular, pectoral, and some vertebral muscles (trapezius, rhomboids, levator scapulae, latissimus dorsi). Understanding concentric/eccentric force and the brachial plexus. Also basic anatomical planes and axis of motion. We are starting on the arm this week.

Know anyone who got into the UW Seattle program with a cum GPA under 3.0?

UW requires a 3.0 cumulative GPA to enter their grad program and no less than a 2.7 in any prerequisite courses. These are the same expectations for students in the program. We have to maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA with no single grade below a 2.7

Hm... So you don't know anyone that got in with under a cum GPA of 3.0? That's unfortunate... for me lol. Undergrad was so long ago, but I earned a 4.0 in all prereqs, decent GRE, good work experience and volunteer exp, excellent LOR and PS. It would take too long to bring my GPA to a 3.0. Thanks for the info!

There are schools that look at your last 60 or 90 credits instead of cumulative GPA because they recognize situations like yours. This would include your prequisites that you took more recently. There are also schools that have 2.75 cumulative GPA cut offs. You may want to look into those and email their admissions about your situation if any interest you!

Yup, that's exactly what I've done. But, I wanted to know if UW ever made any exceptions (I think I'm pretty exceptional haha). I emailed UW OT after I saw this thread, so we'll see if they'll take into consideration my whole app if I apply or if they disregard the whole app because of this one factor (which is a reasonable one). Just don't want to fork over $100 for OTCAS app and GRE scores to have it immediately rejected, ya know?

The OT admissions for UW were nice. They're strict on their policy for minimums and would not consider my application to keep fidelity. That saves me at least $100! Phew! Lol.

Hi there! I was wondering if you can offer any advise on interviews. I will be going to A.T. Still to interview in November and I am pretty excited about it. What interview questions stood out to you, and were there any that you wish you had better prepared for? Any advise on anything interview related would be helpful! Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for staring this thread 🙂 I was wondering, around what month did you hear back from Washington?

How long did it take for a response? Like when did you send in your app! I'm still awaiting an email from them 🙁
