application letter

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Were I to respond to your 2 unsolicited PMs, using the subjunctive, which, yes, I do know exists somewhat in English,
Since we do not have the subjunctive tense in English,
This is why it's difficult to have a discussion, nancysinatra. Both of these are from today.

And you might look up unsolicited while you're at it. A reply to an email is not, by definition, unsolicited.
It's necessary that I clear up this little point of confusion you have sown.
Sorry if I confused. I didn't think "unsolicited" would turn out to be such a curveball.
Why don't we stop this now. It's quite unpleasant and I'm sure that were I to meet you in person I would prefer not to fight with you.
No worries on the stopping part. I think the thread has run its course. As to the latter, if you think I'm unpleasant in written form, you'd probably find me pretty unpleasant in person as well. I doubt I'm all that different.

I have said it before: FOOLISH CONSISTENCY IS THE HOBGOBLIN OF LITTLE MINDS. It's up to you to figure out what this means.

I am well aware that English has a form of the subjunctive but it is nothing compared to what Spanish for French have. It is a pathetic step cousin of theirs.

Only one of my emails was truly unsolicited. We are even on that count. My effort to contact you outside this thread was merely so we could avoid troubling Toby with this and perhaps restore civility. I'm SORRY! Would you stop about that now?

I thought you had fun debating in the other thread, but apparently not, and so, I am sorry for that as well. However, no one forced you to post there.

I'm sorry to hear that you're unpleasant in person. I suspect otherwise, actually, and that you at least have some minimal ability to be nice.

Anyway, even if there's stories of how I obviously drown disabled puppies (after separating them by color), I promise not to add any more kindling.

God help me, it's like flipping around on cable bored and coming across one of those Celebrity Car Wreck shows or something. You know you shouldn't, but you just can't take your eyes away...

I think every one is tired of this thread, and the OP has stated that he's done with it.

I'm not going to invoke executive privilege and close it (Sazi will mock me if I do 😉) but I am respectfully asking that the combatants please move to neutral corners and stop posting. Everyone involved has said as much already anyway--so do it.

Otherwise i'm sending you to your rooms.

Yes, sir. <Hands stuffed in pocket, staring at floor, shuffling feet to corner...>

EDIT: I deleted my last response in the interest of not fanning the flames. My apologies to the unwitting public...

Thanks for deleting your response, notdeadyet. I just deleted what I had written here. Hopefully we can live in peace now.

The only thing I would say (because I saw your pre-deleted post) is that expecting two identicial statements on the English subjunctive verb tense in the same thread (not even one devoted to grammar) is pedantic and therefore indeed, an instance of foolish consistency.
