Hey! Need some advice! I was wondering if I should retake the mcat in January. I got a 502 (128, 122, 126, 126) in August with a 3.25c/3.35s gpa/a lot of healthcare experience and absolutely no II's yet (secondaries have been done for 5 weeks). I graduated already and don't want to sit around while I could be working on improving my score. What do you think?!

That verbal score is extremely low. Your stats aren't bad, otherwise.
I would study hard for CARS while also spending time studying bio and psych.

Bottom line, you're going to have to retake the MCAT. When you do so is totally up to you.

5 weeks isn't that long. I have waited over 2 months for a II, and I have decent stats.

A 122 is like a 5 on the old MCAT, is this correct?
An equivalent to a 26 is definitely not too low, but yeah, if a 122 is a 5, then you definitely need a retake. GPA is a little lower too, would need your MCAT to be a little on the higher end rather than a little on the low end of the average for DO.

I suggest a retake, but only when you're 100% ready for it.

I'm not sure a retake is in order here. That's a decent baseline score. I'd work on other aspects of your application.

A 122(thats like a 5 on the old test I think) in a section is pretty lethal from what I read.

You're right, if that actually is a 5, but I'm not sure about how appropriate it is to transfer old scale scores versus new. I also didn't think every DO school had section cut-offs, but maybe I'm wrong.

That's getting pretty close to the end of the cycle.
If you've already sent applications to schools, they are probably going to reject you before you have the chance to retake.

I don't think you can amend your application after you have been denied and have the school reconsider in the same go around.

The way it looks to me, you're going to need to start polishing things up for the next cycle. You should get the advice of somebody who has more experience, though. I'm just going off second hand knowledge here.

Checked one of my portals and got my first II actually! So there may be hope after all. Do you guys think I should still shoot for a retake?
