Anyone heard applications numbers for this year at their school yet?

The director of admissions at UMN mentioned in a pre-vet tour/meeting a few weeks ago that applications were (I think) 950 this year. If so, that would be about 10% down, which strikes me as significant. Wondering if you all think 10% isn't significant, if it's specific to our school, or if its widespread.

Kansas hadn't stated an exact number, just that it was over 1,300 for a class of 112.

I know for IS, NCSU has roughly 190 applicants. They said they had a decrease in IS applicants this year.

That it seems to me a 10% year-to-year variation is probably more than just normal variation. As in, I'm wondering if overall vet school applications are down this year (are we seeing a reaction to the stagnant salaries and increasing tuitions)? Is just UMN down (because of our increasing tuition? other factors?)?

... or is it all just a blip on the graph?

Oh ok, I understand. Karen had mentioned the application numbers when she came up in October to give the pre-vet talk and we had speculated that it might be in relation to the increased tuition at UMN. It definitely is one of the more expensive OOS schools.

I only know about Kansas, but their apps are basically the same as last year (since their stats are up on the website).

It would be interesting to hear from other schools!

Yeah, OOS went up a LOT. Is was no big change. And the waitlist is moving a fair bit so it's safe to say that quite a few folks decided to attend elsewhere anyway.

VMRCVM had over 1000 applicants. Illinois had under that but not by too much; they were still over 900, I think.

To be more specific there was a 14-15% decrease in IS applicants for NCSU this year. (223 last year and 191 this year). Don't know about OOS.

I think Dr. Pelzer said those numbers are up from last year for VMRCVM. I don't remember Illinois saying anything about their numbers.

This basically means that the same number of applicants are submitting applications. To compare school by school, you will see that same number of applicants year after year simply applying to different schools. In a nutshell, the total pool has remained stagnant. Yeah, definitely. If I understand what you're saying, the total number is staying more or less the same. To me, that suggests UMN may finally be starting to price itself above its 'attractiveness'. (Which is a bummer, because it's a fantastic school.) Emphasis on 'may', because it's just one year-to-year change I'm glancing at.

I would agree with that. It was my favorite school and I got in, but the tuition is just not doable for most people.
