Look up the use of PCR in identifying infectious diseases- for example, PCR and the identification of c. trachomatis infection. Basically what is done is this: known primers to the foreign DNA are introduced to the PT's fluid/tissue prepped sample. If the foreign organism is present, dna amplification will ensue, supporting a dx of clinical infection, or the presence of the organism w/ subclinical symptoms.

Thanks a lot guys,

I don't know what you're looking for exactly, but here is a link to a menu of medical laboratory tests that utilize PCR at a medical reference laboratory:

http://search.aruplab.com/search/?I...W_BATCHSIZE=20&IW_DATABASE=ARUP_testdirectory

In my experience the most commonly ordered PCR lab test in a clinical setting is Chlamydia/Gonnorhea ID by PCR from a vaginal swab.

Well exactly I'm looking for is the use of PCR in prenatal diagnosis for genetics diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis !!

Why don't you do a pubmed search? You'll find a lot of articles that are what you want.

Yeah, I've tried and I found a couple of articles but they weren't much of a help for me !! :x

PCR is also used to test for chromosome translocations, particularly the infamous leukemia-causing "Philadelphia Chromosome," which is the result of chromosome 9 and 22 illegitimately swapping parts. The PCR uses two different types of primers: only one for 9 and one for 22, each on the end of the chromosome pointing toward each other. Under these conditions, the PCR will only amplify if 9 and 22 have been joined together.
