Where are y'all getting your many small photos to include with your applications?

I went to Kinko's yesterday to see if they'd do it, but they told me a sheet of 20 would cost nearly $200! Outrageous.

Advice would be much appreciated.

I got a sheet of 20 from CVS pharmacy for $ 7.99...not sure where you are from but CVS, Wal-Mart, Eckerds, etc. should be able to do it really cheaply.

DARN!

wish i had know before
i was using passport photos
which actually has been costing me 10 bucks for 2

digital camera + color printer + photo paper

yep, see if any of your friends have a digital camera (or sometimes univ libraries check them out to students). Kinkos will sell you photo paper for about $.50 each sheet and then just go to your university's library and use their color printers.

Each sheet ended up costing me about $1.00 or so total with fee for the printer and everything.. you just need to know how to use Photoshop or some program like that.

I'll probably use a digital camera (or the kind that comes with a CD when developed) then using my computer to crop, etc. and make copies!

digital camera, uploaded and printed from snapfish.com

I don't know if you have AAA in your area, but I've heard that if you are a member they'll do passport photos there for free.

even tho cvs is cheap, i feel like they do a pretty crappy job. i got mine taken at a regular passport photo place, 10 bucks for 2 and then went to cvs, had the picture scanned and reprinted digitally. they print as many as they can fit on an 8x10 sheet, i think i got a total of 16.

This is really silly. but I just can't take a good ID-style picture. I just lok uncomfortable and unlike myself. Really, I'm a pretty ok-looking gal but the pictures...yuck. I know that as much as we say loks don;t matter, they do have some kind of a psychological effect....you don;t think a crappy-ish picture will hurt my chances, do you?

I know, I'm paranoid 🙂

I had an unemployed artist sketch a photo for me. Yep, 20 times.

I paid him with money I drew in kindergarden.

i used a digital camera and cropped the picture and copy and paste it a few times onto a page. Then i went to office max and asked them print it out for me. it cost me a total of 99 cents!

Hey BurlyPie, I know what you mean about the: who the heck is that person?? kind of thing with passport pictures. I completely was getting mental and finally I had to just accept that the picture I had done ($9.95 at Fromex for 2) was not so bad and that I really do have a crooked smile. But it was ME, sure enough and with a great big smile on. 😀

Then CVS and 7.99 for a sheet of 16. Most of my secondaries aren't asking for pictures tho ...

I just took a chisel and etched a picture of myself onto a small steel plate. Then i took a pen, which i stole, broke it to spill the ink, and stamped pictures of myself where ever there was a photo box.

Hey guys!

So I know some of the applications specify to send just a normal, passport-style head shot, but for those that don't, is it ok to send somewhat of an "action shot"?

For example, I have a pic of me with some of the 5th graders I volunteer with. I really like the picture a lot, and it's obvious who I am from the picture (you can see my face clearly, etc)

Would it be ok to send that? Or is that a strict no-no?

Thanks! 🙂

trust me, anytime you take pictures with 5th graders, its suspicious...

I currently don't have the digital camera, scanner, etc. capabilities....

I know that Kinko's does passport photos, but they said that their photo machine do just wallet sized and bigger photos. I would like to somehow get a sheet of passport-sized photos. Any suggestions?

The picture doesnt have to be passport size exactly. As long as the dimensions are something close to it (like a 2X2). the reason why passport pictures are so expensive $10 for 2 is because for an actual passport picture they have special requirements like a white background and other stuff. so maybe ask kinkos if they will take a normal picture and just crop it to the approximate size.

Shoot, I don't know about the rest of you guys but most of my applications were given to me as *.pdf files. I just use Illustrator to put my digital picture right on the app. and print it out on a color printer.

If the photo clearly shows the faces of those kids, I wouldn't send it in (privacy issues, etc). But I'm not pulling out all the stops when it comes to photo stuff--I've been just cutting a 2 x 2 square of myself out of various photos that I have doubles of. It's pretty obvious that I just cut myself out of another photo, but if a school is anal-retentive enough to actually care, then I probably wouldn't be a good fit at that school anyway 😉

Where in California are you? I live in south california, and we have a ton of "cheap ghetto" photo studios at the mall. The kind that you get taken with friends and boyfriends in junior high and high school. Check your local mall for one of those. They have a lot of really corny laser backgrounds, but you can also get plain white or blue. I got 48 study pictures (2x2") for $12.99. That's all I paid for EVERYTHING....he took 4 pics and let me pick one. You can't beat that price for a quality (somewhat) picture and no driving around to find photo paper etc.

good luck

Someone, please enlighten me...

I just noticed that these pictures are "optional." Do y'all think it would hurt our chances if we don't attach a photo? And I noticed that not all schools want pictures (in my case, ten). So why get 20 pictures?

Be careful what picture you send in. If you get accepted they might use that picture as your student ID. That's what my school did, and now I'm stuck w/this nasty amcas picture as my student ID for like the next 4 years, unless I pay $20 bucks for another one.

if you have a regular camera and a roll of film (even part of a roll left in your camera--you can get doubles, reprints, etc), have a friend take a series of close-up shots of you agst a wall or something. places like walgreens throw in doubles for the same price (or a free roll of film). if you used a new roll, you end up with at least 24 pictures, maybe 48 or more. cut them into small squares. voila. good, cheap alternative for people without digital cameras, color printer access. photshop, etc. it's what i did 3 yrs. ago when i applied.
