does anybody know, can you apply before taking all your pre-reqs and dat? I want to apply May and take the DAT in August. However, I won't be done my pre-reqs until fall. Do you think I have a shot?

As long as you have most of the pre-reqs they require it should be fine. The more you finish the better idea they have of your academics. Also just from my personal experience I would suggest taking the DAT in june/july or before if possible bc I took mine in Sept and got late interviews even though I sent everything in by June 1st. Just my experience.

Yes I'm in the same situation as you. I want to apply in May but take the DAT scores in Sept. I have all the prereqs but going to take some additional classes to boost my gpa.

Is taking the DAT in sept okay?

It takes approximately 2 months from the time you submit your application, to the time schools receive it. It also takes two weeks for the ADA to send out your DAT scores. So plan on taking the DAT so that the scores get to the schools the same time your application does. Schools won't look at your application until your scores are in. 🙂

It worked for me. I took my DAT Sept. 8th and submitted my application to AADSAS on September 9th.

But I would not suggest it, becuase by the time my application was reviewed and processed UoP had already filled up all their regular interview spots and was only schedulinig alt. position inteivews. I did managed to get interviews from UCLA, Arizona, USC, Tufts, Detroit, BU (I only went to UCLA, Tufts and Arizona).

Keep this in mind: It takes AADSAS about 1.5-2 months to send your application to the dent schools (2-3 weeks to verify GPA and another 4-6 weeks to send it) but it takes ADA about 1-2 weeks to send your DAT scores. That said, if you submit your application in May you have about a two month window to take the DAT and not delay your application. If you wait 4 months to September it might delay the processing of your app. at the dental schools.

But if you need that time to do well on the DAT, it is better to wait a little and do well and take it once. But you have alomst 4 months until June-July and that is PLENTY of time to prepare for the DAT.

good luck.

i will be taking my first semester of o chem in the summer. For that reason, I wanted to wait until August to take the DAT because the summer course is from May until August. This way, I will have at least one semester of o chem complete. Do you think if I prepare from all the study guides, I could take it in July? Or wait until August when I am done at least one semester?

also, do you think it will be a problem applying before taking a semester of o chem? do you think the schools will look right over my app because your performance in o chem is a big part of acceptance?

Make sure you are fully ready by then as any need to retake the test will be devastating to your entire application!

you can apply before completing all the pre reqs and if you have goo grades so far you should have no problem with the admissions.

take the DAT when you feel ready and when you are scoring high on practice exams.
