Hi everyone,

I've posted here on the forums several times about my interest in podiatry school. I have a question on how the letters of recommendations are to be sent. Currently, I'm planning to get 2-3 professors as well as the podiatrist I've been regularly shadowing to recommend me, but when I look for more information, all I see is an E-LoR reference. Is this just an email of a letter of recommendation that can be sent directly to the university? How exactly do these work? Also, for schools that don't accept E-LoR, do the professors mail them directly in or do they send the recommendations to me in a sealed envelope and I forward them? I apologize for all the questions, but I just want to double check with everyone.

Thanks,
SF

For Interfolio, recommenders send the letters to Interfolio and then Interfolio forwards them to the schools you designate. Its a very simple process and relatively cheap (there is a cost involved). The recommenders can also send them to the schools themselves (at least to the schools I am applying to).

Use Interfolio, a centralized letter service. After you sign up, they will give you instructions on how the letter writers must submit their letters. After that, you just select the schools you want to send them to, and bada boom bada bing, your letters are sent.

All the schools I've talked to just said mail it in. Is there a specific format of a letter of recommendation? I'm almost done with my applications and hope to have all of my info in by January 1st!

I sent mine directly into the schools. I didnt mess with the E-LOR option. its probably easier though.

Barry lost my letter(s) and Temple threw them away because it was before the cycle started. All the other schools received the letters with no problem.

I have no answer for your format question. Most professors likely know how to write a letter as im sure they have done it before.

Do I just ask the professors to write me a letter of recommendation and sign the copies? Do they need to be sealed prior to my receiving them? I'm definitely doing everything by hand because I feel safer knowing they were physically mailed.

I just dropped off pre addressed stamped envelopes to my professors and they took care of the rest. I could be wrong, but I believe the proffessors use a school seal on the envelope and sign the back of the letter (where you lick it). But I never saw the envelopes again after I handed them to the professors. You will likely not see the letter they write for you.

edit: I did the same thing for the podiatrist letters. Stopped by their offices and dropped off pre addressed stamped envelopes.
