Hi Everyone,

I want to get my application in early, I know that the official cycle opens on August 1st and that you can't start your App till then. I have 3 schools that I completed pre-reqs at and was wondering if I can start to send official transcripts from those schools to the AACPMAS? I just want to expedite the process before the 1st as much as possible. And along that same vein is there anything else I can do before Aug.1st? Or pretty much once the 1st hits then I can fill everything out....

Thanks in advance for the help👍

I wouldn't. I recall a poster on here said they did that and in the end it cost them time because AACPMAS lost their transcript.

Ok so you would wait till the 1st, then send transcripts...

Hey billBOB213, how are your stats? And have you finished your personal statement? I still need to work on mine.

Question. Can you send transcripts, LORs, etc. BEFORE sending your app or does your application have to go first?

For transcripts I would definitely wait as noted above. However for LORs and MCAT scores it varies by school. Some welcome you to send them early for holding while others don't. It's really best to call/email admissions in regards to time sensitive materials to minimize the risk of things being lost.

I have a 23 on MCAT, 3.2 regular gpa and 3.0 on science gpa

and I haven't done my personal statement....should start that waiting to finish my microbiology class which gets out in a week....that's why I wanted to see what paperwork I could get in while I am studying for finals in Micro.

I am trying to get into OCPM, Scholl and DMU...maybe Temple but I heard that it is tough to get into and my stats aren't amazing as is.

One more question billBOB213, how long did you study for the mcat? Im taking it aug 10 and im so scared im going to do bad.

Stay calm is rule number one 🙂 I suggest taking at least two offical practice tests. (preferably 10 and 11) They will give you a good estimation of what you will score.

I'm waiting until late January to take mine.
I'm finding that there is SO MUCH to cover.
I feel like I'm reading the physics section for the first time. :scared:
How long did you take to study?
Any advice besides the above mentioned message? 🙂

I know my validity may seem comical due to my score, but as mentioned I had a legit reason for my score. The examkrackers 1001 questions are excellent to use. Even if you don't understand the concepts fully, doing those problems will give you so much exposure and practice with MCAT topics.

cool, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

when are u going to apply?

August 1st 🙂! As a side comment I think five months of MCAT prep is overkill.

I agree, 5 months is a lot and I would be burnt out. I gave myself 3 months to study....but hardcore studying was mostly done last month or last 6 weeks when I would study 3 to 4 hours a day (Saturdays usually 6, took Sundays off for a break). I also work full time and have 2 kids so 3 or 4 hours a day would be impossible to do for a long period of time. I did many full length tests (around 8) and did a lot of EK 1001 questions. I liked doing the practice tests...I would study all week and then usually take a practice test on Saturday and then spend about the same time it took to take the test going over answers and where I went wrong...that was (at least for me) a huge help. I don't pretend like my 23 is amazing, but I feel it will do the job to get me into Pod School, and that's what I did to prepare for the MCAT. I am in a different scenario as I took most of my pre reqs in 2006/2007, so I had to review and catch up on a lot. I actually focused more on my strengths (bio, gen chem) and tried to get better at my weakness (physics, ochem) but didn't really concentrate as hard at them. Many would do the opposite but that's just how I tackled that test. Best of luck, it is a beast for sure but if you have a plan and study and stick too it you will feel a lot better heading into the test. I think the key is to not get burnt out and make sure you take the test when you are swinging up (in your studying and knowledge) and not draw it out so long (like studying a year) cause everything won't be fresh. Set goals each day of time you will spend, or (cause you can waste your time and procrastinate) set goals of material you will cover and stick to it....day at a time.

Great thanks a lot. So do you think doing a lot of practice tests will help me? Bc im not crazy good on the info but i have about 9 practice tests that i can go over.

Ya it will will help a lot, but also I found myself getting stuck on concepts or material that I had to bite the bullet and study and learn it. That's why I would take a test on Saturday then spend the next week going over what I missed and then re test next Saturday. Practice test will only help you if you are learning from it or getting better at things you keep missing...believe me you will know what you need to work on. So at the end of the day you learn as much about material AND gain confidence with the test.

But once again, that's just what I did. I got a 7 in Biological and a 7 in Physical sciences so I by no means killed this test, but I am happy with what I did and am VERY glad it's over.

good luck

Thanks for the advice guys 🙂 I initially was going to take it during september but I didn't feel I could be ready by then. Unfortunately the next date is not until january 🙁

I've been doing about two hrs a day!
Any advice about what I should be doing to not get burnt out by January?

Additionally, after taking the test did you guys have an idea of how you did or was the month of waiting absolutely dreadful?

I would wait til Aug 1st as well. I finished the process in about 3 days once it opened. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row and it should go by very smooth for you..Good luck!!

I am applying to podiatry school very soon for admission for the class of sept 2014. I have a GPA of a 3.75 and an MCAT score of 19 (I am retaking it in less than 2 weeks). I'm really nervous that it won't get much higher than a 19, maybe 20. I have many student involvement activities and leadership roles in each, cancer research experience, i work on an ambulance, and am a very good student. Do you think if I applied with an MCAT of 19 I would still get accepted to the NY podiatry school?

I think 19 is pretty low compared to that of the average, but I think the GPA you have could be something to counteract that low MCAT score. Apply broadly, you could probably get some interviews, and just explain yourself well if they ask about the two scores.

Also, if you dont mind me asking, why are you waiting until 2014 as opposed to starting in 2013?

We have very similar stats and I too will be applying this up-and-coming cycle. 23MCAT, 3.167 cGPA, 3.15 sGPA. I am interested in Scholl and OCPM as well. Maybe we will be classmates? 🙂
