Hey everyone,

I would like to know how important it is to get in my application materials to the schools ASAP. I plan on applying to all my schools of interest on September 1 - for the schools that start to accept their applications on August 1st, is this considered late?

As well, when I fill out my online applications, how do the reference letters work? Do I just send these to the schools on my own as soon as possible? Finally, what are the requests for confidentiality sheets for?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Not really, since deadlines are usually late winter/early Spring. What made you think Sept.1 is late? Spots might fill up faster. Some people will apply once their Oct. OAT scores are released.

You should call the individual schools if you have specific questions about recommendation letters.

Don't forget though that Berkeley requires your application by sometime in December -- that's the earliest that I know of (and it is for this reason that Berkeley will only accept the October OAT -- unless, of course, you happened to take the OAT last February). If you're planning on applying there, and you send all of your other apps at that time, you should be fine (it's easiest to send them all at once). Don't worry, December is, by no means, late.

As for letters of reference, most schools (not all, but most) require that the doc/mentor/whoever-is-sending-the-reference-letter send it themselves (meaning, you may not touch the letter once they've typed it). It has to leave their offices. Schools understand that it's coming from someone else, so you can go ahead and submit your app even if the reference letters haven't been received by the school yet. Just send a friendly reminder to your ref. letter writers once you've submitted your apps.

I'm not sure what confidentiality sheets you're referring to are.

I believe the requests for confidentiality sheets are from UHCO? (I might have gotten the school wrong) I remember wondering about those too and I think the deal is that you need to submit one of these sheets to each letter writer. Having said that, I'm not exactly sure what to do if you are using the Committee letter option as I am doing. I think I'm supposed to submit one to the Committee too, but as to who exactly fills this out, I have no idea. I'm going to figure all this crap out AFTER my test tomorrow...
