Hey all,
I was hoping someone could answer this question for me:
I plan on taking the MCAT Jan 29 or 30 2011. Is it still possible for me to submit applications to LECOM, with an April 1 deadline, and PCOM with Feb 1 deadline, for fall 2011 start date?
Thanks!

Whoops, misread your post the first time. I'm not sure--I would call the schools if you want a definite answer. It might be too late for the one with the Feb 1 deadline since your MCAT score isn't released until a month after you take the test. No matter what, though, get your primary app in asap, way before your MCAT.

Were those deadlines for secondary applications? Then for PCOM you probably would be too late due to not getting your MCAT back in late Feb. You may want to rethink your timeline a bit. It's not impossible to get an interview/acceptance, but the later you are the harder it becomes.

If you took the MCAT at the end of Jan and then applied don't be surprised if you don't get an interview, most applicants will already have been complete for months. If you can take the MCAT this summer or early in the fall, you will have a much better chance. Why are you waiting to take it until Jan?

Thanks for the feedback, it really helps...
I would like to take the MCAT earlier, but I will not be prepared by then. I am taking my last class left for the prerequisites in fall and a prep course during that time as well. Therefore the Jan MCAT is the earliest I can take it.

My grades are as follows:
undergrad: economics and Spanish majors: GPA 3.O
Post Bac pre med cert: GPA 3.0
I have 4 yrs work experience in finance and over 800 clinical, volunteer and shadowing hours.
I am proficient in both Spanish and Italian languages.

Based on the above, am I only a candidate for osteopathic schools?
Should I wait to apply for the 2012 start yr?
Does anyone know anything about The Commonwealth College of Medicine? I know this is a DO forum, but I was wondering if anyone had any idea how competitive it is to get in there?
Thanks everyone for being so helpful...

Please also not that those dates are deadlines, but alot of seats are already filled. It is a disadvantage applying so late maybe you should wait for the next cycle apply early and try DO and MD so you do not have any what if's while applying because you applied broadly and to many

GOOD LUCK

Personally, I would wait. Based on your gpa I would probably only apply to DO schools and maybe your state med school.

LECOM does accept the January MCAT. I called and asked before taking it to try to get in for this fall. They are the only school I'm really able to try for on this cycle, but they're my first choice so I'm giving it a shot anyway. If I don't get in, I'll cast my net wider for next year. If you don't try, you'll never know.

ChiroDO,
If you dont mind me asking, what is ur science grap? overall gpa? why is LECOM the only one you can try for this cycle? What about PCOM? Someone in the above responses posted several school who accept Jan MCAT?
Thanks for the positve feedback!!! I'm going to give it a shot!

Madonna,
My science GPA is 3.25, cumulative 3.18. That includes an unimpressive first shot at undergrad 15 years ago so has been significantly improved. I am currently enrolled in chiropractic school and don't graduate until August. LECOM's academic calendar is structured such that I can use vacation time and check out of clinic early to start classes. They were the only one that was really going to work for me this year.

ChiroDo,
I think that you have a great shot based on your current schooling and gpa. You seem very determined and are a positive inspiration:
Let me ask you this: So I have a 2.7 gpa in science right now and I project it will (hopefully) be close to a 3.0 by the time I finish my last few pre-reqs... Here are the options I am debating over: Let me know your opinion....
1. take this fall to finsh the last class i need and prep for the Jan MCAT to apply to DO schools for the 2011 start date?
or
2. take this fall to finish the last class i need and apply to MS Biological science programs and/or post bac prep programs leading into MD or DO schools?
or
3. start a MPH degree this fall and apply to schools for 2012 start date?
thanks so much
