How is everyone answering the questions on the CAS application? I'm not sure if I should answering these questions as paragraphs or as bulletpoints, especially the ones about research publications. Any advice?

I would use bulletpoints as much as possible, easier to read, esp for your pubs. I would also separate out pubs from abstracts if you have both.

Do we apply at the end of July or do we apply September 1st for ophthalmology? The SFmatch site says September first but some have told me to apply late July to be the "first batch" of applicants. Is there an advantage to applying early?

I've heard waiting until September is a bit too late, and the first part of August is a good time. I don't know the exact best day to send stuff in, though.

The straightforward answer is: as soon as possible. September 1st is the recommended deadline to turn in applications because some programs have a deadline of Sept 10 or earlier for ophthalmology applications. Considering it takes some time for SFMatch to receive your application, process it, then upload and distribute it, SFMatch puts in some cushion time. However, it's just best to turn it in as early as possible to snag a chance at the first wave of invites. I sent my application in at the beginning of August, but it wasn't processed until much later that month. I think I may have missed a few first wave invites because of that.
