Silly question about filling out application, but I am trying to figure out where to put this under.
My main work was w/ an opthamologist and I was wondering doing I put this under optometric work or non-optometric employment. Since under the optometric work the first thing it says to fill out is Optometrist/Organization.


I also worked at a volunteer clinic w/ a mix of optometrist and opthamologist. Where one day its optometrists, and the other would be only opthamologist. So I am wondering whether to put it as extracurricular or optometric work. And should I list it as two categories, since there were a number of directors for the program.

I would say to put that under non-optometric work, because you were shadowing an ophthalmologist, rather than an optometrist. If anything, maybe call Optomcas, but I'm sure most people will tell you the same.

As for the volunteer clinic, I would put that under EC. Unless you were actually on payroll, I wouldn't put it under Optometric Work. The responsibilities are different for an employee and a volunteer, so I think that's the distinction between the two categories.. Hope this helps.

well it has choices for paid work,volunteer, shadow. I worked for an opthamologist.

And the volunteer work was the exact same if not more than working at the opthamologist since they had government funding to pay for all the equipment, unlike an individual opthamologist so I was able to learn more.

I can't give you absolute answers as to what you should put under what section. But I think it makes the most sense to put the ophthalmologist job under non-optometric work. It's just not the same as working in an optometrist's office, unless there's an optometrist working for the ophthalmologist.

And regardless of how demanding the volunteer work was compared to your job at the ophthalmologist's office, it's still considered extracurricular, UNLESS you were being paid for your work. Sure it may seem a technicality to you, but you can't label something as a paid position if you're not getting paid anything.. I would say "volunteer" is a step above shadowing.

If you're not convinced, I say you would just be better off just calling Optomcas.
