I am planning on applying to dental school this summer. I will have the DAT done in mid July and hopefully will have all my of letters of recommendation in by then also. Is there anyway I can start the application earlier in order to save time/ get into the cycle faster?

Yes there is. What you can do is start the application in June, and mail in your transcripts with a transcript matching form that you get from AADSAS as soon as you can. They say they don't process your transcripts until you pay, but my official GPAs were posted a few days after I finished the application (mid July) because I turned in my transcripts the first week the application opened up. Getting your transcripts processed is typically the most time consuming portion of the application (unless the people writing your LORs take forever). Doing what I suggest will cut down the processing time. You can also apply in June if you want to and have your scores and LORs sent in later, but most schools don't review your file until it's fully complete.

Start it ASAP, usually opens 2 weeks before. Do the DAT earlier than July, have everything finished by end of June. You really want it done by then. Trust me, less anticipation once it's over, and you'll have your name in the first or second mailings which means more exposure.

AADSAS will open on June 2nd, 2015 this year. You may complete the application without your DAT scores/letters being submitted and it will be mailed out too schools in an initial batch. Subsequent updates (letters, DAT score) will result in your application being mailed again but you won't have to wait for your GPA to be verified again.

Okay. So once I start the application in June, what other things will I need to complete the application (besides gathering my LORS and studying for the DAT?) Is it very time consuming? like i said,I plan on being in the thick of my DAT studying while applying so how much time should I set aside for all of this?

Edit: Is it even worth trying to get the application in in June despite not having my DAT done until mid-July? Should I just wait for the DAT to be done and then go for the application when I am not as busy?

No, it doesn't take very long assuming you have your PS ready. The most tedious part is entering coursework and experiences which doesn't actually take that long. You will also have to request transcripts from each university attended but that is really just waiting time on your part.

This is a sample from a couple years ago, it really hasn't changed much: https://www.byui.edu/Documents/societies/pre-dentistry/AADSAS Application.pdf

Getting your application in sometime during June/July is typically considered "early." You could prepare everything now ahead of time and simply copy it in to the boxes when the application opens.
