Application Questions....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It depends.. You will start getting 2ndaries shortly after you submit your AMCAS application. These will only be from schools that don't screen. they only get your name and address initally from ACMAS, so they won't know anything about you till AMCAS sends your whole application.

After your application has been sent to the schools you could get 2ndaries very soon, depending on your stats. You could get them within the first 2 weeks. But if they screen and you are average you may end up waiting for awhile. You could wait 2 weeks to 3 months. It all will depend on you and your competitiveness.

Sma can be said about interviews. It will depend on how competitive you are. You could get one in 2 weeks after your 2ndary is recieved by the school or you could wait until April.

It is a huge waiting game. Good luck

The start of the interview season depends on the school, which I think is listed in the Medical School Admissions Requirement (MSAR) book published by AAMC every year. Good luck!

When should I expect secondaries to start coming in?

How bout interviews? When do they start?
Without searching for your "where are you applying" thread, I'll try to remember which schools you're applying to off the top of my head - we overlapped with five:

USUHS - this was the 1st secondary I received, got it via email July 17.
Wake Forest- received secondary via email August 5.
Northwestern - rejected presecondary Sept 5 👎 .
UVM - received secondary via snailmail sometime around July 31.
UNC - had to fight for this one, didn't get the secondary until 3 days before Christmas 🙄 - so that doesn't help you too much. Then again, I'll be happy to answer questions about the school for you next year. 🙂

Oh, I had my AMCAS application in on the first minute of the first day (June 3) - so the first secondary took about a month and a half. Most of the others (including my other schools) came around the end of July / beginning of August.

*edit* oh, interviews, I retook the MCAT in August so mine didn't start until after the scores were in. But I think schools generally start September-ish.

some secondaries can be accessed via the school's website. make sure to explore their site just in case. i know baylor, UTSW, and emory all fall into this category with UTH requiring you to send them a copy of your draft card (if you're a male).

Thanks guys, here are my schools if this helps:

Swiper, being a TN resident makes UNC a long shot for me anyway. It is sort of my "Harvard" so I am applying to it anyway.

Oh, Loyola... I think that one came second week of August. Lots of great essay questions, definitely the application I liked the most (I thought I was best able to tell my story by answering the short essays.)

UNC - yeah, you never know... plus, with the high 30's score you'll get back in June, you might just be set. 😉
