So I have a few questions about the process.

1. I'll be starting an SMP in the fall, and applying to D-schools at the same time. Assuming I get interviews/acceptances somewhere, am I required to finish my SMP by dental schools or can I just stop at the end of the spring semester with X amount of credits.

2. About the "Academic Update" period...does AADSAS send out your grades to the dental schools (with recalculated GPA) and does/can this make a significant difference in your app?

3. I know interview offers can start as early as September, but do rejections also start then too? Or is your file just put aside until a later date for rejection?

No, unless it is stipulated in an acceptance that you must earn said degree/certificate/whatever which is pretty unlikely.

Yes, if you send in your transcripts AADSAS will send out an "update GPA" after the Fall semester.

Yes, I received a rejection about 2 weeks after I sent my app. in. I started to panic but then my interview offers came in about a month later.

It depends if you're offered admission with the contingency that you finish your SMP. If you're offered admission, no strings attached and you've finished all your pre-reqs, then by all means, save the money and go enjoy yourself before dschool.

Yes, they do recalculate your GPA and send an update to schools. As far as the difference it makes, it depends on what you get. If you score all A's in Microbio 8, Advanced Human Head Anatomy, Physical biochem and Oral Pathogens for Experts - then yes, that can help a ton. If it raises your GPA a few points, that can't hurt. Failing everything however can be a red flag for adcoms.

Yes. Rejections can start early (check past predent.com cycles). Some schools flat out decline you once they've received the app fee and some string you out until June. Depends on the school and your stats.
