Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone could give me some advice about my application this cycle.
I am currently a Junior at UC Irvine and had planned on applying this upcoming cycle. I had originally planned on taking the MCAT in May, but due to the death of a loved one, I had to put it off to July as I had finals/midterms throughout the rest of May and June.
I spoke to someone about submitting my AMCAS application on June 1st and they advised me to do so. Just to get the verification complete. They also said to apply broadly in my primary application.
I have reasonable EC's (volunteering, research, tutoring ochem, part-time jobs) and I'm not an URM, but my GPA is a little on the lower side (3.4). I had a rough quarter this Spring, so I don't want to have those grades show up. Which is why I am trying to submit the primary ASAP. After I submit my primary, can I submit my Official Transcript (w/o Spring Grades to AMCAS). All of my pre-requisistes have been completed prior to this quarter anyways.
Also, I know my chances at any California Allopathic School are slim. I have looked MSAR and I checked the following schools that would be slightly more forgiving in the GPA/MCAT arena: VCU, Drexel, Meharry, and some Puerto Rican schools.
I have been very busy and I have been unable to contact a counselor at my school. But from what I understand the primary application is submitted, the transcript is sent to AMCAS, and your application goes through verification, correct?
After that, once your secondaries come in, you will submit your letters of recommendation to the schools that ask for them. This will be done through whatever agency you used. I have three letters of recommendation complete, but I need 3 more that I'm waiting on as they are from Physicians I have worked with who are very busy at the moment.
I have a lot of pressure from my father to at least apply this year to everywhere (including Caribbean schools, Puerto Rico Schools). If my MCAT score were so-so and I don't get in this cycle. Would that be a huge negative against me?
As far as the cost goes, my father really wants to pay for the primary application as he really wants to see me get in ASAP and not take a year off.
I'm sorry if these question sound elementary, I have been very sick these past few weeks and I have had midterms, after shifts, and other issues. My mother just had surgery as well last week, so I have been taking care of her.
Any help, would be genuinely appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
