I need some help organizing my time.. I have been out of school for 4 years now and majored and chemistry -- 4 years later, I am chemistry retarted.

I want to take my DAT in late July (BTW is that too late for 08?). I have been studying for a month now so I have about 7 more left. the following is my temptative schedule PLEASE give me your 2 cents!

6 weeks (1.5 months) studying from my old GEN-CHEM book
6 weeks studying from my old ORG-CHEM book
currently taking AP 2

my question is -- is it a good idea to spend so much time with my old books.. or should i get the destroyer or topscore right now?

I already have the Kaplan and Barron.. and again they are just outlines

please give me as many answers as possible.. setting up a decent study habit and where to study from are my biggest worries right now :scared:

PS is DAT in july too late for 08 cycle?

destroyer, and top score are for people who are prepared, i suggest studying Schuam's outlines and then get Destroyer and top score about 2 months before you actually take the exam... just to see where you stand.

Go through them to refresh your memory. Then take a pracice exam and study why each answer is right/wrong. I think this helps you to pick up on details that you are missing.

If it has really been that long, you will definitely need your old textbooks as more in-depth review. I know I'm going back to mine constantly. I would use Kaplan's blue book as an outline, then as you cover each topic, refer to your old texts as needed for better explanation. Once you've done a thorough review, start with the topscore and destroyer, which are straight questions. You will find yourself going back to fill in the gaps once you start going through destroyer.

Definitely give yourself ample time, start studying early. If you are planning to take it in June, maybe shoot for late April, early May instead. This will light a fire under your *** and also give you a cushion of about a month or so before your absolute latest deadline to take the DAT. It's kind of what I have done and boy am I glad I did. Once I started reviewing I realized I was going to need looots more time... but since I planned to take it early anyways, I'll still be done way before June and still ahead of schedule for 2008. But everyone's diff and there are a lot of people on here who will disagree with me and say a couple months of studying is more than enough. Use your best judgement. Good luck!

I know for sure a couple of months of studying would not be enough.. I am going thru Gen Chem right now.. I hated gen chem then and I hate it now.. I LOVED ORGO and did well in undergrad.. so i cant wait to start reviewing that. I feel the college text book very useful, becuase after each sections -- you get to practice some questions. the blue book just outline everything and gives you no place to test your knowledge
