I'm a sophomore and I'm thinking of pharmacy. I would need 2 more semesters of classes to meet all the pre-req's, but am I correct in thinking it's too late to apply for admission in 2007? When should I be planning on taking the PCAT and getting everything together to start in 2008?

if you want to start in 2008, you have plenty of time. Take PCAT in January 2007 or June 2007. Finish your classes by summer 2007, that way youwill be all set to apply for 2008 cycle.

No, it's not too late to apply for admission in 2007. I submitted my application in late November of last year for entrance this fall (2006). It varies between schools, but I believe most schools are just beginning to accept applications. From what I have seen, application deadlines range from November to February prior to entrance the following fall. However, applying earlier can improve your chances of admittance.

In that case would I need to take the PCAT this October?

If you want this 2007 cycle definitely take the PCAT in october. Start studying!

Yeah that's when I took to it. In retrospect, I should have taken it sooner, b/c it meant I needed to do well on my first try if I wanted to get my application in by around November. I think for my school I could have technically taken the January PCAT, but I would have been pushing the application deadline so I knew I couldn't count on that.

If I were in your position, I would probably take the PCAT in October and apply this year. If you don't get in, you will be able to strengthen your application for the next cycle by finishing your degree and retaking the PCAT. Plus going through the whole admission process will really educate you for the next go round. It seemed like when I actually got the ball rolling on getting my applicaton together, there was a lot more to be done than I realized (getting letters of rec., writing personal statement, studying for the PCAT, etc.) It all takes time and its tough to nail down the appropriate order and timing of everything. This website is a great resource for figuring all that out though, I don't know how I would have gotten through it without it.
