I want to move my MCAT back a month so I can take physiology this summer. I had originally planned this:

June-July: Study MCAT
August: Take MCAT
Sept. Apply, my MCAT scores will also come back that month

Now I want to do this:
June(or July, whichever summer month) take physiology
Other summer month: Study MCAT
August: Study MCAT, school starts in last week
Sept: Apply and Take MCAT

But then my scores won't be back until october. Can I do that?

Yes. I took my MCAT August 2012 and was still able to apply early.

Of course. Ppl (myself included) still get interviews/acceptances late in the cycle (up to June, even) so sending in a complete application in October/November is still early.

Although, I would strongly advise applying before January and strongly advise against applying past March; especially at the schools with smaller class sizes (DMU, AZPOD, Western, to name a few) since it seems that they tend to fill up quickly, according to some on SDN.

There is a lot more leeway at schools with larger class sizes such as NYCPM, Scholl, Kent, and Temple.

But studying for the MCAT during school is a bizz-nitch...even at the beginning of the semester because assignments, quizzes, jabroni lab assignments, tests all come quickly. If you can avoid that scenario, the better. If not, sit for the MCAT as early in the semester as possible.

No, I wasn't going to study for the MCAT DURING school, I was going to study for one summer month, plus the last two weeks of May. then the first 3 weeks of August, School starts in the last week of August.

I wasn't going to wait until January. I wasn't talking about was it possible, work-wise, for me to do this. What I was asking is can I still send in my application in September even without having taken the MCAT, and having it there until my MCAT scores came out

My general advice about January-March window was intended for others viewing the thread...few post, but many read 😀

And yes, you can apply without an MCAT score. Most schools will just wait for your scores to come in before reviewing your portfolio/inviting you to an interview. However, I know that Kent may not necessarily need your MCAT score to invite you for an interview if they already like what they see in your file, in my experience. I got no love from Temple, Scholl, and NYCPM without one.

Thank you.

So, if the Physiology plans out (if I can afford it, basically) I will be taking my MCAT in early september after having studied late may, one summer month, and the first 3 weeks of august. Then I will also open my application in september, when it begins, and get my MCAT scores back in October.

I would warn against a September MCAT, just because there is no good back up plan. If you get sick the day before, your cat dies, you get into an accident on the way to the test, etc etc, there is absolutely no back up plan!

So would an August one be better? which month do you think would be better overall? I could do an either Aug. 22 or Aug. 28, maybe.

I was planning on doing August, anyway, because I don't know if I will be able to do the summer physiology or not

Yeah I don't know. Realistically, your cat can die the day before the test and you should still be able to hit podiatry standard MCATs, and January isn't TOO late for most of the schools.

The only thing that would stop me is lack of transportation.

I haven't been sick in years, since I was in elementary

On another note, do you think taking physiology a month or so before I take the MCAT will help me?

Well I also have to have it for my BS, so I wouldn't be taking it just for MCAT help.

Unless you haven't fully prepared, taking the MCAT late shouldn't be a problem. I took mine in early September and everything turned out just fine. I think taking physiology close to your test date will help you since the info will still be fresh in your mind.

I have a question about signing up for the MCAT.

If I plan on taking it in mid August when do I have to sign up for it?

Another thing is that I still have to take classes in the Fall '13 to graduate. If I won't have classes ending until December '13 when can I actually apply?
Because I don't want to start applying in late December after I graduate. So can you apply the first week of application dates even though you have yet to actually graduate, but you plan on graduating in December.

Sorry if this was wordy, but I just want to figure some stuff out. THANKS!

The sign up slot is not open yet. Registration is open just up to the May dates so far, I am looking at an august spot so what I would just keep looking until they open it.

You can apply when it opens and just update coursework when you are done.

Good duck and happy trails!

Many people apply while they are still in school.
