Hello,

I will be applying to dental school this June. I was wondering if I
could access the application now and start working on it or do I have to
wait until June 1st. Also how do you report the hours spent observing
and volunteering on the application? Do you put in the number of hours,
years, etc? I am asking because I wanted to know if I should focus on
observing and volunteering now before I apply so I can list it on the
application or can I put it off to this summer after I apply which would
be much more convenient for me? I would really appreciate your help!

u can sign up for an account in aadsas.
then u can see what kinda questions do they ask
i dont expect there are drastic changes for next year.
u can do that as long as u dont click the submit button.

I think it is fine to project the amount of shadowing time you expect to have in future, so you do not need to wait to do that stuff.🙂

Hey pgill31,

I suggest that you should start volunteering ASAP because not only will you accumulate more hours that you can state on your application, but you will also gain more experience in the clinical setting that you can write about in your application essay. If you do not have enough time to volunteer regularly, you can always call various dental offices to observe, I am sure dentists appreciate eager individuals in pursuit of a career in dentistry!

P.S: Starting volunteer work in a dental office now will also allow you to get to know the dentist better, that way, if you want, you can ask him or her to write a letter of reference for you to submit to dental schools (I think a letter of reference from a dentist would certainly enhance your application).

Do I have to wait until June 1st

May 16th was the first date I was allowed to start working on my AADSAS application--this may be the same for the new cycle.
