This might sound like a dumb question but I was planning on having all of my things into the CAS by the middle of August so that I can get in the magical "first batch." Is this too late? Too early? Any advice from previous applicants would be much appreciated.

Yes this is FAR too early. What you want to do is wait until about November to send that application in. That way it will get it to the programs a bit after the big rush of applications and your application will seem like a pleasant little bit of reading, unlike the large pile of applications they had to wade through earlier in the year. This will also demonstrate that you are not bothered by the pressure of meeting deadlines and conforming to social norms. Another good way to communicate this would be to get several visible tatoos before your interview, and perhaps hold off on shaving (if you are male) for several days before the interview. This will show them that you are confident in who you are and that you play by your own rules. Program directors will love your sense of independence and you will have no problem matching in the program of your choice.

you should be in either batch 1 or 2 but it's hard to predict. i had my stuff in at the end of july and was batch 1. it was prob too early but i had no reason to hold on to it since i had it all together

Man you forgot the dreads!

No but seriously to the op: Get your app in as soon as you can. The earlier the better. If you can't then you have no choice but do opt for quickness if you can.

Some of the programs have deadlines. If they receive your application after that date, they will not consider your application.
