hey all, i have a question about dental school applications. i haven't seen an actual application yet so i don't know what the format of the apps. are, but i'm assuming that there's a section where you list/write about the extracurricular activities you were involved in, any jobs you had, volunteer experience, etc. well, will the adcoms make sure that the applicant has actually done these things? for example, if an applicant had a job for a year as a lab assistant, will the adcoms call the lab and find out if the applicant actually worked there (or else anyone can put whatever they want and have a buffed-up application, right)? also, will they call the clubs that the applicant was involved in (how will they do that?), and call the clinics, etc. etc. to verify the information the applicant listed? i was just wondering about how the adcoms verify this info... i am about to quit my lab job, and i am planning on listing that lab job on the application, and so should i inform my employer that adcoms are going to call them one year from now, and if so, i should probably keep calling the lab to make sure their contact info is the same? thanks for all your guys' help!

HSO,

Good question! I don't think many if any adcoms take the time to contact the extracurrics listed on the application, although that isn't to say that they won't or can't.

I'd say 98% of the applicants never have any calls made to this regard. I think it is because the adcoms assume you are honest, after all you are applying to a professional school, and I also think it is because they simply don't have enough time to verify everything.

If each person lists 3 extracurrics, it could take a LONG time to verify them, especially when schools these days are receiving large app. numbers.

Arizona is planning on receiving 3000 applications this year, so if we use that 3 number then they would have ~9000 employers, labs, clinics, etc. to call. Due to time that just isn't possible.

I would let your employer that you are listing him on the application and leave it at that. I can almost promise he/she will never get a call.

I don't think so . Arizona just called my dentist today and verified his recommendation letter. I think schools randomly call and verify applicant's info.

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that Arizona WILL call all of your people you list, although the secondary plainly states that they WILL call.

If you are just talking about the AADSAS application, then I'd still say that 98% of the schools are not going to call.

well, so far only Arizona and Baylor called my dentist to check on me.
