Just out of curiosity, is any of you, due to whatever reason, is accepted to dental school, but still going to apply again for 2006?
I heard last year a kid was accepted to NYU but he applied again and this year he’s going to UOP.

Depends. Some people will take what comes along, especially if there is a slim chance of getting into another school. I wouldn't wait unless the school I was accepted into had a bad reputation for not being that great. Then again if that was the case I might not apply there in the first place. Also, you have to consider the fact that if you defer a year your losing out on a year of income which could be anywhere from 100-150, 000

How about UOP, the three year program? No opportunity cost in that case, however, I heard the competition after you are accepted is no joke in that school, since everyone's a good test taker, hard to stay on top of the class.

There are lots of reasons. For example, financially if you could get into a state school the following year versus going to a private school this year, it would benefit you to wait out for a year. Currently, I am on the waitlist at my state school. I'm seriously considering deferring my NYU admission til next year if I don't don't get into the state school. I would save more than $200,000 total by doing this. On top of everything, I can travel for a year knowing that I have a school waiting for me next year. Why no??? 👍

If one did not get into their state school this year, where is the guarantee that they'll get in on their second try?? 👎

What if one has high stats but applied late, eg, 3.7 gpa and 22 dat but applied late in last November, he/she could get an acceptance into a new school like UNLV but if reapply early in May, the chance of getting accepted by UOP, Upenn... is defintely there.

I'm sure this has been done, up to an individual's prerogative.

I think it depends how you feel about the school you've been accepted to. If you think you can see yourself going there and having a decent enough time, I think it wouldn't be worth deferring and waiting another year. In the end, you still get your degree and can practice dentistry.

However, if you think you're going to be miserable and hate the school, why put yourself through 4 years of torture?

It's a definite risk reapplying to hope to get into a specific school. There's no way to guarantee they won't pass you over again for one reason or another. Also keep in mind that applicants are getting more and more competitive each year, and tuition is also still increasing each year. For example, UOP's went up 7.5% or so between last year and this year. It's projected to increase again next year as well.

I was accepted only to an $$ private school recently and I am 99% applying for 2006 on the first day possible, so I will probly get in and save a truckload of money. Hope that helps!

Punishment is good for the soul. At least that's what my parents told me while I got spanked.
