Hi everyone, I'm currently a 3rd year at UC Davis with a biological sciences major. My cumulative gpa as of now is ~2.59 and I'm almost done with prereqs.... I just need one more english and one science + lab.

I'm currently working 4 hours a week on work-study on campus. I'm also currently volunteering at a program called head-start in woodland. I'm taking a kaplan mcat course right now which will end in late april but I'm unsure if I will be ready to take the test then. I've read around the forums for applying in june 2010 which is for entrance of fall 2011 and I'm looking for some advice. Should I apply in june or wait until next year? I don't have a PS ready nor do I have LORs. Any help is appreciated. Thx

You aren't going to get into an allopathic med school with a cGPA of 2.59. If you spend the next 2.5 years getting straight As, your cGPA will be around a 3.29, which is still well below the median for those accepted of 3.65.

Consider retaking classes where you did poorly to take advantage of the DO med school grade forgiveness policy. Your GPA can rise much more rapidly that way.

And as the others said, Wait.

Eh.. I wouldnt apply till your 6th year of retaking all your low grades and even then you'll need a good mcat to show DO schools your worth there time.

Like i tell everyone, identify the problem of why you have a low gpa. Is it heavy course load? Is it family issues? Or are you not studying hard enough.
Either way if you want into medical school you'll need to fix this.
