Hello,
I'm hoping you guys have some advice for me, I took the MCAT last April [(25Q 7,9,9)/3.7], and applied to one MD school and didn't get in. I've decided I'm going to apply to some DO schools this year for fall '06. I'm re-taking the MCAT in August, so that means I won't know my scores until october or so, so should I go ahead and send my apps now? Or will they hold up looking at my app until they get my August MCAT score anyways? Does it depend on the school-- anyone have any ideas?
thank you

Sned your app in, earlier the better is usually the norm. I'm taking the MCAT again as well.

send it now. they will wait. most likely you won't do worse on the new mcat. odds are probably around the same. even if they're waiting for your new scores, things will happened quickly after they get them. However, if YOU delay the process things will snowball to an even bigger delay and hurt you in the end.

You only applied to one school last year with that MCAT? That was very optimistic of you!
I guess I'm more curious as to your motivation for applying to DO schools this year. Do you know anything about its philosophy, or are you just thinking that DO schools are cupcakes and easy to get in to?

I only applied to one school because I didn't want to waste the money with a score that was not so competitive, when I was planning to take the MCAT again, but I wanted the experience of applying, interviewing ect and it has been a good experience. I applied to my only in-state school because it is so darn cheap (12k/year) and I had the best odds of getting in there.
This year, I'm taking some more chances and applying to more schools, I am confident I can do better on the Aug MCAT.
I'm applying to DO schools because why not? DO's and MD's work in the same positions together and as long as any physician's training is quality, there is little to no distinction in the the field of practice today in my experience.
Yes, I do know about the DO philosophy or else I wouldn't be applying. Perhaps my greatest disadvantage is trying to get to know a DO when there is a lower percentage in practice in my state (compared to MD's). I have worked with MD internists for the last 5 years in private practice and their opinion is that I should go wherever I can get in, MD... DO... it's all med school!!

thanks for the advice-- I think I will send my apps within the next few weeks. That seems to be the smartest thing to do. You're going to KCOM! Congrats to you! It's my first choice DO school.

those are Radiohead lyrics, no?
