Apply both EM and EM/IM?

Can you apply to both at one program or will the program not like that?

You can and lots of people do. The program in New Orleans doesn't hold it against you. I don't know about others though.

I didn't get the impression that HCMC held it against an applicant either; a classmate of mine applied to EM/IM and then either IM or EM separately (I cannot remember which). He ended up matching there.

I don't think any program would hold it against you. Many EM/IM places I interviewed at (for EM) mentioned in the morning that the combined applicants among us should just hang out after the EM part is over for the combined interviews. It's an accepted part of the process.
